TTC After a Loss

when should I start ovulation test?

Today is the first day since my period has ended. I have heard to start the day after your period...but if you are irregular then to start 3 days after your period. I have my first period 7 weeks after my D&C (so 49 days) then my 2nd period was 35 day cycle, and my most recent period was a 37 day cycle. this was stressful, because I just started ttc last month (being 3 months) and being late made me think I was pregnant again. Only to find out I wasn't. This month I got an ANSWER ovulation test strips. I've never used this, so if anyone can give me any advice, please do. Ane let me know if I should start today, or wait. Thank you so much everyone!

  • If you tend to have longer cycles I wouldn't start until at least day 10.  I have 30-40 day cycles and start on CD 14.

This. When I was on clomid I would O on cd16. But I usually have longer cycles so I'll start around cd16-18.

  • I included a link to a chart that tells when you should start testing based on your cycle length.  Pretty much its says the shorter your cycle, the earlier you should start testing.  I have 24 day cycles so I generally start using opks on CD 6 or 7.

You may want to buy internet cheapies on Amazon-the Wondfo brand.  I think I got a combo pack-40 OPKs and 10 HPTs for around $20!!

  • Have you charted before?  It looks like you maybe have based on your ticker, but there's no chart link to peek at your last cycle.  If you don't, I'd really recommend it.

When I started using them after our loss I just started testing a day before the soonest I'd ever O'ed when charting pre-loss.  As you can see from my chart (clicky in my siggy), I've been O'ing later since the loss.

Its a bit of trial and error, especially right after a loss.

  • I have pretty irregular cycles too.  I bought a whole bunch of internet cheapie OPKs and started testing around day 9 or 10.  I've charted in the past, but I like the OPK's better. I feel like it gives me a better idea of what's going on.  But since I'm so irregular, we tend to FWP usually every other day or so starting around CD10.  Got pg first time trying for #2, but eventually mc'd.

  • thanks everyone! I guess I will wait a few days to start. Is there a link or somewhere I can figure out what all the abrev. stand for? I have figured out some of them...but have trouble with some. like FWP. Thanks again!
  • also, my husband just got me a basil thermometer and I just got on fertility friend. So this will be my first time charting! Wish me luck. It seems a bit overwelming, but everyone says its easy to catch on.
