When did you LO stop taking a bottle? And what worked for you?
Now that S is in the toddler room, I'm finding that they are forgetting to give her two bottles during the day. I've already talked to the owner about it, but was wondering if maybe this might be the right time to transition her to a cup. She already uses a sippy cup for water, but not milk.
Re: Cutting out the bottle
I started with a sippy with formula in the AM at about 10.5 months, and bottles for the other 3 feedings. She took it really easily. When she transitioned into the toddler room at 11 months, she wasn't taking the bottles at all during the day, so I changed over to sippies for those 2 feedings, and kept one bottle at night. And at a year, we went all sippy, all the time (now with whole milk). She made every transition really easily--knock on wood!
I've had the best luck with Dr. Weil and Nuk sippy cups.
Sydney is off of formula, but not off the bottle. We have had awful luck with sippy cups. They either leak (all of them) or she can't figure it out (she tries to tilt the flip and sip).
She drinks whole milk from a cup (with help) with breakfast, lunch and dinner. It's the juice/water combo that she walks around with that I still give to her in a bottle. AND... her nighttime bottle - now all milk (only 4 oz though).
It sounds to me like you have half the battle won, accidentally. Daycare might have done you a little favor. I would give her milk all the time in the sippy if I were you.
I need to get more serious about always using a sippy. I'll admit it... it's more my reluctance than Sydney's ability.
No, she is lactose intolerant. Right now, the doctor has her on goat's milk, which is not as smelly as I thought it would be.
I am going to send her doctor a note this weekend to see if we can do soy or lactose free milk instead. And thanks for the info about her drinking it slower - good to know.
I have learned all kids are different. My oldest transitioned at 11 months without an issue (but had no choice post surgery) to cold milk.
My middle guy refused the sippy at 12 months.. so... I waited 1 month & tried again & he took it without a problem. Cold milk was a problem, needed to warm it & he had issues with finding the right sippy to drink from - needed to be soft spouted.
My youngest never took a bottle, I transitioned from nursing at 12 months to a sippy cup. It took about 2 weeks. He only used the straw sippy in the beginning. Cold milk was never a problem. He is on a supplement now that is vanilla flavored & loves it too! Over this time I just removed the other option & provided it in the sippy.
