FFFC!!

Happy Friday, ladies!

My confession:

I don't understand mom's who only buy their children the best of the best clothing and never buy used. They grow out of their clothes SO fast that I just can't phantom spending $50 for one brand new outfit at GAP.

  • I just bought Christmas presents for my best friends little guys... for you know the holiday season that just passed. But I did get them each a wicked comic book and a cool outfit from the Disney store (Toy Story for the 8 yr old and Mickey for the 6 year old)

  • I agree 100% ! I always shop at 2nd hand stores because most of the stuff is hardly worn. The only things I do splurge on is Stride Rite shoes (because my kids' feet are extra wide), and Easter outfits. Last year I bought by son a 3piece super cute outfit from Cracker Barrel ! I work there and I got my discount but it still totaled like 25 dollars for shirt, jean bibs, and hat. Rarely can I find really cute little boys clothes unless you have to pay a fortune for them ! Like gymboree, I think they are overpriced... I can only afford their sales....

I would agree with you in terms of my DD, but not with my DS. Honestly, we get SO much wear/use of out his clothing and always have. He just grows at such a slow rate or something that he doesn't outgrow stuff quickly at all. He is still wearing his coat and snow pants from last season, for example. As a younger toddler, there were clothes he could wear for nearly a year. I seriously thought people were insane when they kept talking about how quickly kids outgrow their clothes. Until I had DD, who I can practically see outgrowing her stuff. So it makes more sense to me now. So I actually DO buy DS some more expensive stuff, but so far, she is mostly in Carter's and similar. LOL.

Hey, hey, hey! If they didn't buy those outfits, I wouldn't have been able to get all the gap shirts for $5 at resale. I would get pissed about that as well, but decided to think of it that way. I can't understand paying $25 for a Gap shirt, but I sure do love paying $5 when it still looks brand new:)

  • We buy all of DS's clothes brand new, but I *never* pay full price.

My confession - I judge people who take their kids out into public wearing sweatpants. The *only* time we let DS out of the house wearing anything but khakis or jeans and polos/button down shirts is when he wears his Puma track suit. Other than that, he's always dressed like a little man.

    I like privacy. A lot.
  • I can't stand Facebookvites.  If you can't put a 44 cent stamp on the invitation, do you really even want to invite people?  My Aunt, who is like the queen of ettiquette and parties all of sudden is sending invitations via Facebook.  The only time I feel these are appropriate is for a gathering of some sort, maybe a BBQ.  Seriously, send me a darn invitation!

My other FFFC has to do with Facebook as well.  Why do random people invite all of their friends to their child's birthday party.  This girl that worked at the school that I did my student teaching posts her daughter's birthday party on her wall and then makes the invitation open to all.  I don't even know your daughter, why would I want to come to her party?

Maybe I should just stay off facebook.

Well...I 1/2 agree...I buy the stuff on sale!  It's just sooo cute!  I would buy used, but don't have the patience or time to sift through the junk for the jewels.

  • We are TTC, but I am unemployed right now.  AF is due Monday and I was slightly relieved to see spotting this morning.  How bad is that?  I should have been bummed (we have been TTC for 4 cycles now...took 12 to get pregnant with DS).  Instead, I felt like I could breathe.  I am ready for another baby, but can't imagine going through job interviews while pregnant.

I just realized this might sound inappropriate. LOL!

  • I'm trying to get more creative with our lunches. Yesterday I made little whole-grain English muffin pizzas with veggies to make a face (peas for eyes, carrot strip for mouth, etc.) -- and DD1 didn't want to eat it. She shared my leftover spaghetti instead.

It made me kind of sad to watch them sit there and congeal after putting the effort in to try something new. Yeahyeahyeah, she's a toddler (and generally a good eater) and sometimes she's just not going to feel like eating what I serve, but it still bummed me out.

Are you serious?! Does your child not get dirty? Oh, and I agree with PP--DS grows slowly! I haven't had to buy him pants in more than a year. I don't spend a ton on his clothes anyway, but it is because he gets so grimy and does so much in them that I would be annoyed if they got ruined.

  • I also hate facebook. I dont have an account but occasionally look via my mom's acct (with her permission) b/c it's the only way that I know ANYTHING about 1/2 my family. People are facebook snobs.... they only post pics and info there and I hate it.

I can also say that I almost never buy clothes retail for DS. My mom buys a lot for him and occasionally I do if I see a good deal. My son is also a slow grower. He has a shirt on today that he has worn for a year and a half! But the mark up on clothes is unreal! When you see something marked down 75% you realize that you shouldn't pay full price.

Mine: I can not stand SO many of the things that my siblings do as parents. I cringe when I am with them sometimes. I am judging them, but never say anything to them. I just hate to see my obese niece continue to shove her face full of junk b/c her parents dont want the battle. And I hate to see my nephew hit my son over and over again b/c there is no discipline (from his parents) when he does so.  It's hard to support family when you question so much of what they do.

All of this!  Call me crazy, but if we're headed to the park or something, I'd rather he be comfy and be able to run vs. worrying about pants getting dirty or falling down (which ALWAYS happens with Jude b/c he is sooo skinny, haha!)  And seriously, what are you judging me for?  Do I look like a bad mom?  Poor?  What exactly am I being judged about?

My husband put 6 MONTH sized Adidas shorts on him last week just to see if they'd go on - and they did!! HAHA!   (This is my nearly 3 year old!!!)

  • Yea.. I guess my FFFC is that my kid wears sweatpants to daycare every.single.day. They are inexpensive at Target (Hanes brand), durable, warm, comfortable, and easy for him to pull up and down while going to the potty. And he gets filthy at daycare. Idk, maybe it's because I'm a working mom and only see my kid in PJs during the week and on the weekends- we own a couple (used) pair of jeans and khakis that he wears for church or going to the mall and that's it! I will buy him an easter and christmas outfit, but other than that, who the ef cares? Our daycare teachers are so appreciative that we don't him in complicated outfits.

I'm not that poster, but my DS actually doesn't get dirty. He is such a neat kid that I probably could put him in a suit everyday. LOL! I don't (he wears jeans most of the time). So it's possible.

    This is us.

I don't think I have ever paid full price for anything.  My daughter is more comfortable in cotton pants and since she is active all day at daycare, I want her to be comfy.  This way if they are out playing, I don't care when she gets a grass stain.  My daughter's clothes come from the clearance rack at Old Navy (when you get an extra 50% off, plus I use a coupon), garage sales, resale shop, mother-to-mother sales,  and hand-me-downs.  My daughter is tiny too, but she keeps getting taller.  I know that her 12-18 month pants would still fit her, but they would be like capri pants instead of regular pants.  I can't see spending a fortune for clothes she only wears for a few months.  If we go somewhere on the weekends I will put her in jeans or a cute dress and leggins, but other than that, she wears cotton pants on the weekends.  My daughter has been potty trained for a year and I find it is so much easy for when she has to pee that she can just go, instead of standing there yelling because she can't get her jeans unsnapped and then have an accident.

    This!

I have so much fun shopping for DS, and I am always a bargain shopper.  Just like one of the pp, my DS is always in button downs or polos and khakis or cords.  And yes, of course he gets dirty!!!  But, I'm totally cool with it!  Its not like I don't let him play because he's in a polo...or get mad when his clothes get dirty.  Khakis get clean in the washing machine just the same as sweatpants do.

To each his own, but DS looks the way I want him to!

Ditto about wanting your kid to be comfortable. It's funny - I actually judge moms who only dress their kid in jeans or nice pants that button/zip. It makes me think you care more about appearances and looking "perfect" than about your child's comfort and ability to pull down their pants for potty. Not that I don't ever dress DD in cute jeans, but generally I prefer cotton pants. As a matter of fact, I just returned FOUR pairs of jeans that my SIL got our girls at Gymboree and replaced them with the matching leggings. I knew the jeans would just hang in the closet and barely get worn!

  • TSDTSD member

I buy clothes for my son at gymboree, janie & jack, gap, etc, but NEVER at full price and I buy at the end of the season for next year or sale stuff. I just spent $200 at the GAP and got literally $600 worth of clothes/shoes/coats for next year.

He has never got anything dirty enough that I'd say it's even less than "excellent" condition. He has plenty of fun- He goes to the park, he plays in dirt, and he's always dressed "activity-appropriate"- but he's a picky eater, never eats messy food (his choice), and I'm a champion laundry do-er.  I never dry anything in the dryer (hang only) so nothing has ever shrunk, pilled, stained, etc. I've made back about $1000 selling his stuff when he's outgrown it.

I don't care what you buy your kid to wear but I love shopping, I have and am only having one child and I like buying him nice clothes. I don't have any issue with sweat pants though like the PP. It's just if E is wearing sweats, he matches down to the shirt, hat, socks and shoes. :-)

Yep only sweats here.  We have one pair of jeans that DS rarely wears.  If I had my choice I would wear sweats all the time too. As soon as I get home I change to pjs or sweats..and that is what I wear pretty much all weekend long.

Plus, I love when DS is dirty...then I know he is having a good time.  We are all about playing in the snow, digging in the dirt, and making a mess!

Heehee. I love that FFFCs are never really FF.

I'll bite: I judge parents who let their kids run around post-eating (say, at a todler gym) with dried food all over their faces. Wipe your kid's mouth already!
