To those of you still working--what shoes are you wearing?

My office has a business casual dress code, which means I usually wear nice slacks and a sweater or a button down blouse, with heels.  I haven't been able to stop wearing heels because I can't figure out what other shoes to wear.  But my feet are always killing me and my legs get so swollen by the end of the day, so I need to figure something out for these last few weeks.  I've tried on my Uggs with a normal work outfit, and they look awful.  I don't have any other shoes that are suitable for winter, work, and don't have a heel.  I'm willing to buy a new pair just to get myself through the next few weeks--any suggestions?

  • We're business casual as well, and although my staple shoe is heels, these days you'll find me exclusively in a pair of dressy boots. I bought a new pair with tread because of the weather, and bought them a little big so that they'd fit comfortably when my feet are puffy and I love them. I just wear my pant leg over them so they look more like dress shoes.

  • I have wedge shoes so I still get the height and they are super comfortable.

  • I have bought a few pairs of really nice looking flats and then some very small heels that are more like flats and those seem to help. Target has some good choices, but I personally like the flats at Maurices (you can go to www.maurices.com) b/c they are dressier flats. I also wear heels quite a bit too but can't do it every single day.

  • I love Merrell Shoes-  they are so comfortable! They have some that are more casual, but I have shoes for work that are great and a little more dressy.  I am a teacher and on my feet all day.

  • I guess one of the advantages of being in the South is that I can still get away with flip flops most days.  They're a no-no around our office, so I've been bringing a separate pair of work appropriate flats with me, but so far, no one has said anything about it.  So I'll continue to rock these until someone tells me differently.

  • I've been wearing my black Uggs. They are super comfy and I can wear them outside so I don't have to bring an extra pair of shoes.  At this point I don't care if it looks funny or not :^)

This. I have Ugg-like boots that I've been wearing. I bring heels with me in my work bag, but I can't bring myself to taking my comfy boots off. Fortunately I have a pretty casual work environment!

Me too!  No swelling or anything for me either.

  • I wear my snowboots (which look somewhat like regular shoes under pants) or my Danskos. Admittedly my Danskos are getting snug these days :(
  • I wear boots in and heels at my desk. I put on my boots if I am going to be out walking for lunch/errands too - but we have a couple of feet of snow on the ground so it just makes more sense.

  • I switch between my dressier merrells (that I got at marshalls for less then 40 bucks) and a pair of clogs, they have a back on them, and they are designed to relieve foot stress for people who have to be on their feet - they are black and plain, so they work with anything and they a decent lift and good soles (think nursing type shoes, but not the old lady ones)

  • We're business casual, but it's really way more formal than other business casual places.  It's more like wearing suits without jackets.  Except you still need to keep your suit jacket in your office in case you have an unexpected meeting.

Regardless, I am wearing plain black Skechers these days.  I can't try anymore.

  • flats usually look ok with work slacks.....maybe try shopping for a nice pair of flats.  or pick up dr. scholl's gellin' inserts- they work in my experience, depending on the shoe.  i've been wearing my regular shoes- i have about a 15 minute walk in in the morning, so i wear flats (lately snow/rain boots) in and then swap em out once i get to the office....but i did that pre-preg for the livelihood of my heels!

This. We're business casual as well and I have wedges I've been able to wear the entire time. But I have to love Fridays when I can wear my Nikes to work Big Smile Technically we're not supposed to wear tennishoes but they give me a break. I'll enjoy it now because after my maternity leave it's back to heels with jeans on Friday!

This! I have a pair of brown Dansko mary jane style clogs and I alternate between them and a pair of black Lands End slip ons. But I also am lucky and work in an office where I can wear my jeans every day so technically I could wear just about anything except flip flops, but those are still the two I alternate between. I hate shoes that tie anyway, but especially now that can hardly reach down there! I highly, highly, highly recommend Dansko's to anyone though! They are awesome, pregnant or not!

  • Alright, you guys are making me feel like a slob.  I have planter fasciitis, so with the added weight, it's helpful to be able to use my carbon inserts.  With that said, I'm in gym shoes and anyone that wants to run to HR about it can deal with a doctor's note if required.  Being in engineering there's plenty of fashion I could pick on that other people show up in...my footwear should be the least of their concerns.
