Alston Tucker Jarman has arrived - 6 days earlier than due date!

Alston Tucker Jarman was born Monday January 24th at 12:53 PM. He weighed 7 lbs. 1 oz and was 18 inches long. My due date was January 30th, but I was definitely to a point in my pregnancy where I was counting the days, hours, and minutes hoping he would come early.

We arrived at the hospital at 7 AM to find out I was already 6 cm dialated and the fun began. I got a shot of Nubaine, which was like heaven on earth. Then the triage nurse walked me to my room where I got an IV and later an epidural. My contractions started to pick up and before I knew it I was 9-10 cm dialated and ready to push. The RN called the nurse midwife for permission to start before she could get to the room because the pressure was so great I couldn't hold back any longer.

I pushed between 1.5 and 2 hours before we met Alston Tucker and boy was that a lot of pushes, but he was definitely worth the wait! He came out with a head full of hair and was placed on my chest for his umbilical cord to be cut by my husband. We spent the next hour or so with one another getting acquainted and family was anxiously waiting for the go ahead to come in. Tuckers first birth announcement was a picture sent via text message of Tucker laying on my chest. This gave them something to bide their time as they frantically texted all their friends and family members the picture of Tucker!

All and all the hardest part was receiving the IV, as the nurse missed my vein the first attempt and had to stick me again. The anesthesiologist was great at administering the epidural and I hugged onto my nurse while this was being done. Unfortunately I had a contraction as he was threading the catheter into my back, but I had already been numbed locally so this was not too bad and the pain relief was so worth it!
