Adoption

Gift for friend who is adopting?

I have a friend (prev co-worker actually, not a close friend) who will return home tomorrow from India after adopting a 14 month old little girl. They were unable to conceive naturally, so we are all so very thrilled for them! I want to send them a gift. I don't think this little girl speaks/understands English, but I'm not sure. I thought a nice gift for her could be a personalized book (my daughter's favorite book... my DD is the same age as this little girl)... called My Very Own Fairy Tale by www.iseeme.com

If I get this, I have to choose the wording on the front page to say something like, "Welcome home, (name)" or "Welcome to the family, (name)" or "For A Very Special Girl, (name)". Other suggestions?

What about ideas for other gifts for them??? We can't spend more than $25 or $30.

TIA!

Re: Gift for friend who is adopting?

  • I like the idea of a book. Even a baby board book so she can learn the names of things as she learns English. If you do the personalized one I like "welcome home (name)" or anything else you'd put for a new baby.
  • Loading the player...
  • i don't have a rec, but i did want to tell you to let your friend know that even though she may not understand her in English right now, it won't be long before she picks it up.

our foster son was only spoken to in Spanish before he came to our home, and now he knows over 100 words in English and some in Spanish as well. :) They're sponges at this point! ;)

  • Books are a great idea!  Reading to her will also help her to better understand and master English.  That is very sweet of you to think of them and do that.
