Its wearing me out! We are doing retro toys. So DH got his old atari from his parents and hooked it up last night. It still works! We have some fun old school toys for the kids to play with (and the grownups) and will probably put on some old fashioned Disney movies in the background. I'm a little worried because there will be one 7 year old and then a bunch of kids 2 and under.
Sounds like fun! I saw him on FB with the Atari last night! Be sure to take lots of pictures...I know you will! Are you going to have James open presents at the party? My friend and I were talking the other day about how people don't do it anymore...
I have to get planning soon...I think I'll go ahead and order the decorations from 1st Wishes this weekend. I'll have a couple older kids(ages 8,10 &11) but they're cousins so I don't feel as obligated to have something specific for them to do...I may even ask them to "help out" with the games for the younger ones.
I decided on Construction Pals theme. I still want to have a cowboy theme but am going to wait until he's a little older.
We went to a party (the one where he caught RSV) and they didn't open gifts there. But we are hoping he just gets books so I don't know. We definitely don't need anymore toys in our house!

I'm right there with you...I hate to sound ungrateful but we don't need anymore toys either.
It may have been tacky to ask for books, but I like the way we put it
DS is turning 1, so come enjoy some retro-toy fun! Santa brought all the toys he'll need, but DS really loves to read!
Um...tacky or no, I'm stealing it! I really want to expand his library...I had a library in my room as a child. My mom even had a stamp made that I stamped inside all of my books. It said "Ashley's Library"...lame, I know.

Sorry to butt in but I have one of these now. It says from the Library of Mrs (insert my last name)...I have TONS of childrens books since I taught and plan on teaching again and I started collecting them my senior year in high school....Have to have a way to keep track of them...I also have my own little card catalog index card system lol...I'm a nerd like that

SO not lame! My grandmother had an embosser with a design she made up of her initials and she used it in all of her books. I LOVED that thing.
I think the saying in the invite is really cute! Fortunately, for both of Allie's birthdays we have had a lot of people call and ask what to get her. I have told them both years that since we just had Christmas, she had plenty of toys, but she could use books, pajamas, or spring/summer clothes. At her party this past weekend she only got clothes, books...and 1 toy, which was the tricycle my parents bought her. It was great!
Allie ~ 01/26/09 ~ 7 lbs, 9 oz ~ 20.75 in.
& Amelia ~ 03/16/11 ~ 8 lbs, 1 oz ~ 21 in.
Oh, he's getting toys from family I hope they are not going overboard, though. Seeing how much he loves books makes me want to start giving books as gifts for kids. We didn't do books for our friends' kids this Christmas, but we did games. That would be a very good alternative to books once our kids are older (and not video games!).
I'm glad you guys don't think the invite is bad. I hate to dictate what anyone gives him, but we seriously don't need toys for a LONG time. And even with all his toys, he prefers boxes and books!
Also butting in - we didn't open gifts at M's party. I was hot as heck both in and outside of the house - and I didn't want to put anyone through that. There was just so many and he didn't have any idea what was happening. I did have a few people who insisted on me open theirs before they left and I happily obliged. I think we'll defintely open gifts at parties as he gets older - and the parties will be a lot smaller too so it won't be as bad.

Yeah...as he gets older I'll probably let him to open them at the party but for now he could care less. He still has toys from Christmas that we never opened...
I think the themes are great! How fun! We did open gifts at M's party, but it was awkard. She got some clothes, no books (which she loves), and TONS of toys! Oh My Goodness at the toys! Plus, it was right before Christmas and she still got so much then! I actually had to pack half of them away because there was so much in her toy area she couldn't get to anything. I am thinking about packing even more up because she doesn't play with but a few things. That way I can rotate them out so she has "new" things to play with. I am looking for more books for her and will need a book rack for her room soon!
