Pregnant after a Loss

Views on nailpolish

So I am in my cousin's wedding in about two weeks and she of course wants us to get mani/pedis for the day. Normally I would be all on board for this, but being a worried pregnant woman with a history of miscarriages I am cautious. They also don't know I am pregnant and will think it is odd if I flat out say no because I am generally all about being pampered.

What are your views on this? OPI is normally the brand most places use and the only thing I can find it that Nicole by OPI is safe. I'm not sure if Nicole is a specific line or what, but I have never seen that name on one of their polishes.

Oh, the bachelorette party is tomorrow and I am thinking of telling my cousin anyways so she isn't upset when I 1. Don't drink and 2. Leave early so I can be home and passed out by my new 10 p.m. bedtime.

Re: Views on nailpolish

  • As long as you don't eat/drink it I think it's fine. I have not had a professional mani/pedi while pg but have painted my own nails plenty of times. DH is going to paint my toes this weekend since I can't reach anymore.... He just doesn't know it yet lol.

    Great advice.

I've had several mani/pedi's during this pregnancy.

  • I think you are fine. I've been getting pedi's regularly throughout this entire pregnancy and I fully intend to get at least one more : )

  • Don't worry about it.  I can't remember the names of the chemicals that are considered "bad" in nail polish, but OPI removed them a few years ago.

Thanks. I'll try not to guzzle it down.

  • I use OPI when I get a pedicure done.  I asked my OB if there was any issues with getting a pedicure and she said as long as the salon was well ventilated then I'd be fine.

  • The "big three" bad chemicals in nail polish were removed from most major brands a few years ago (except Essie I believe).  Toluene, formaldehyde, and DBP are what you are looking for if you are concerned.  You can always bring your own polish to the salon.
