Is anyone having round ligament pain yet?

I thought it was too early for RLP, but this past week I've been having them. At first it was in my groin area, right in the crease where my leg meets my pelvic area. It felt like a pulled muscle and hurt to lift my leg. I had a doctor appointment this week, and she said it was RLP. This morning I woke up with a sharp pain in my lower right abdomen. It was severe pain. I am wondering if this could be more RlP or something different. I'm thinking it is RLP because as soon as I got out of bed, it started to feel better and was gone within minutes.

Has anyone else experienced this or something similar? 2+ mamas, did anyone experience this in a previous pregnancy?

Re: Is anyone having round ligament pain yet?

  • I've been having these exact same pains for the past several weeks already, and I checked with my doctor and she confirmed that they're RLP. Apparently it can start earlier for some women -- I wouldn't be too worried unless the pain gets really bad.

  • I have been having them the whole time.  I actually thought they were menstrual cramps at first.  Then when my period didn't come and the stick had two lines I figured it out.
  • Yes! Right there with you! Especially when I move too quickly like get out of the car! This time around I am SO much more aware of what is going on! I swear I have had a few Braxton Hicks as well! I could be wrong of course... I am curious to chat with my OB at my next appt to see if I am crazy or not.

I have also noticed a burning feeling in my upper right abdomen. My doctor said that it is my ab muscles separating faster this time around - oh great, love it :)

  • I've started having sharp shooting pains in my right abdomen for the past week.  I literally just had it right now and googled, only to come with RLP.  It still makes me nervous though, so I want to make sure I talk to my OB about it.

  • :::raises hand::: I'm right there with you girls and the RLP!  I feel like I'm pulling something every time I stand up or move too fast, or especially when I sneeze.  I was hoping it would hold off until later in the pregnancy like it did with my previous ones, but no such luck.

I'm the same I get this alot if I move too fast, or stand up too fast or everytime I sneeze;.. I always sneeze and then say OW haha

  • Glad I'm not the only one. Is there anything you guys do to alleviate it besides switching positions? Will it continue for the remainder of the pregnancy?

  • I have it, too. When I stand up or twist too fast. Plus, when I had a cold and was coughing/sneezing, it was really bad.

I've always been told to just try and relax when feeling this pain.  Sometimes it helps to have your DH massage your belly every so often though!  Unfortunately, since you're muscles and ligaments will be doing a lot more stretching throughout the pregnancy don't expect it to lighten up a whole lot Sad

  • I was wondering if it was too early too! I don't get to see the Dr. for another couple of weeks so I'm glad to hear other's are experiencing it too. I've definitely been experiencing strange aches and little pains especially in the morning when I get out of bed. I've been trying to tell myself that crazy things are bound to happen when my uterus is increasing it's volume 1,000 times in 9mos!
  • Right there with you. I have been experiencing RLP for a few weeks. I just take it as my body reminding me to just slow down a little bit.

  • I've definitely had some for the past couple of weeks. Stabbing, random pains on either side when I stand up too quickly, sneeze (both sides), roll over in bed...you name it! They used to worry me but my doc gave me the whole "very normal" speech so I just wince and figure it's nothing compared to labor!

  • I've been having these for the past week. Started the other day I was laughing at something really hard and the pain freaked the crap out of me even though it left as quickly as it came on.  Since then its happened a couple other times, however, usually when I'm laying down and I twist my body too quickly or cough. I was so relieved when I did a search on google about the pain and found out about RLP. Put my mind at ease!

  • Yep, me too. The last few weeks. I was kind of freaking out myself and then I looked it up and realized what it was.

  • I get them too. I usually can push on the spot (gently) or massage it, and it goes away. I didn't know that it was RLP, I just thought it was my abs stretching... or is that the same thing?

  • Yep, I get it if I stand up too fast, cough, sneeze, etc.  We went over to our friends' house the other night and got to laughing about something, to the point where I couldn't stop, and then it started hurting. Smile

  • I've been having them for a while too. Once I was at a football game doing a lot of stand up, sit down, stand up, sit down while cheering. Well one time I jumped up to cheer and I felt the pain in my groin so I quickly sat back down. To my shock (literally) the pain shut up my groin into my abdomen like a lightening bolt. It then went away but it scared me to death in the process. I didn't cheer anymore for the rest of the game. Has that happened to any of you?
