What time does your 4 year old go to bed/wake up?

I feel like compared to my friends with 4 year olds, mine requires less sleep than there's do.  Boo!  For example, yesterday, he played in thigh high snow for almost 2 hours in the a.m. and yesterday evening we went swimming for an hour.  He was up that morning since 6:30, went to bed at 8:30, and was up again by 6:30 this a.m.  He's pretty "challenging" by 4ish.....what is your schedule like?

  • DS goes to bed between 8-8:30 and is usually in my room waking me up at 7. I wish he would sleep a little later.

  • she takes a 10 minute car nap on the way to school and another 10 minute nap on the way home usually.  On the weekends depends on her mood...if she's really cranky & tired I would put her down.  I tell her its quiet time and that she doesnt have to sleep but most of the time she ends up falling asleep.

Yeah, naps are lose/lose here too......he NEEDS to nap, as he is miserable and unreasonable by 4, but if he does sleep at all in the afternoon, he takes forever to go to bed too!  Hoping this works itself out soon, and he starts "sleeping in " to make up for it!

  • We put DD to bed at 7:00.  She gets up with DH about 7:00.  She doesn't always go to sleep exactly at 7:00, but she has the opportunity and often will take it.  I am a big believer in the research that lack of sleep is the cause of many problems in children.
  • no nap here for quite some time.  bedtime is 8:30 and i think he falls asleep quickly.  He comes into our room at 7 -but I think he wakes before that often - our rule is that he must stay in bed quietly until 7. He  puts on a cd to listen to when he wakes up.
  • dc are in bed by 8 and up by 7 or 7:30.  no naps anymore,  I do make them take quiet time. they go to their rooms for an hour every afternoon they are home (between 1 and 2 usually) and they sit on their beds and flip through their books or play with their dolls/figures.  on school days they have quiet time after lunch for a 1/2 hour.  they don't sleep usually... sometimes, they sleep on the car ride home.  not always.  but I think they still need the quiet time....even if they are not sleeping during that time... it's a relaxing time so they don't burn out and end up cranky from 5-8p.
  • Bedtime is usually between 8:30 - 9 and she will usually wake up between 8:30 and 9 in the am. Sometimes I am lucky and she will sleep in until 10.

  • Not quite four yet.  But older DS goes to bed at 7:30 and gets up between 7am and 7:30am.  He knows that he has to wait for 'the right seven' on his digital clock.  He might wake up earlier, but he stays in bed 'til at least 7am.

He is very physically active as well.  Usually no less than 3 hours outside every day, skiing, skating, tobagganning, etc.  He naps at daycare and has 'quiet time' midday on the weekends.

I don't see pushing his bedtime back anytime soon.

promised myself I'd retire when I turned gold, and yet here I am
  • Bed at 8, up 6-6:30 (we keep pushing for 7, but can't get it to happen).  He also usually takes a 1-2 hour nap in the afternoon (right after lunch).  If he misses or refuses to take his nap, I try to get him down by 7:30 and *sometimes* it works.

  • Gracie sleeps 7 pm - 7 am but she doesn't nap.

  • She's in bed by 9:30 most nights. We're working on moving that up to 8:30-9:00. During the week we wake her up at 7:00 to get ready for school, and she takes a 2 hr nap in the afternoon at daycare. On weekends she rarely naps, but she will sleep in until 7:30-8:00. I'd say she averages 11 hrs of sleep in a day.

  • It used to be 8-8:30, but for the past month or so, he's been going to bed at 7:30.  He is so tired in the mornings, we started putting him to bed a half hour earlier and its totally made a difference in the mornings.

  • 7:30-8:00pm for bed and wake up around 7:00-7:30am. DD has quiet time and about once a week she will nap for about 2 hours or so.

  • I think my DS is on the other end of the spectrum.  He heads to be by about 7, and is typically asleep somewhere between 7:30/8 (he "reads" in bed or plays with a small toy with a book light on) and naturally wakes up somewhere around 7.  Most days of the week, he also naps 1-1.5 hours.  He can make it without a nap, but will whine or complain more by about 5 or 6.

  • 7pm-7am, more or less; he hasn't napped in literally years, so he's used to it and not miserable in the afternoons anymore.

  • wake 5:30am

we quietly snuggle (awake) for an hour in my bed before the 6yo wakes up

Goes down for nap b/t 2 & 3 for an hour

    Bed 8:00

if no nap, goes to bed by 7:30

this is pretty much set in stone...he rarely deviates from his wakup time, even if he goes to bed later or has a lot of outside time. If he doesn't nap he's extremely annoying by 5, but if he does nap, he's cranky for an hour afterward...so I feel like it's six of one...

  • Bed between 8 & 8:30. Up around 6:30 on weekdays for daycare. He will sleep in until 7:30 or so on the weekends. He has quiet time on the weekends and he will usually sleep for a couple hours if he needs it.
