Hey Ladies, I am just wondering how far along you were when you started buying furniture and stuff for the baby's rooms and when you actually did the decorating and arranging the room. This is our first and MH and I were discussing this the other day, and we have no idea how long to wait before starting. We currently use the baby's room as a computer room. I don't want to do it too early since we use the room a lot now, but I also don't want to be moving furniture at 35 weeks! TIA.
Re: When did you start decorating/buying furniture?
I ordered the furniture around 16 weeks, and will take 12-16 weeks to arrive, so I wont have it until the end of March or April between 28-32 weeks. The room was painted around 16 weeks as I had the time to do while on Winter Break and did not want to have to take the time off later. We will be putting up the chair rail this weekend so it is no longer a construction zone...
We ordered our crib/changing table set and bedding set at around 20 weeks (after we found out the sex of the baby).
We started painting the nursery the very next week because I was on break from work.
Every weekend since then we have been doing small projects on the nursery, or for the baby.
I definitely appreciated being comfortable while building the furniture and helping to paint. My suggestion is not waiting too long since you may be too uncomfortable to help out.
We also used our nursery as an office space, and I work from home, so I wanted to wait until I was closer to my due date before moving everything.
That being said, we still ordered the furniture early -- around 18 weeks (there was a sale at BRU), but left it in boxes in our garage until just last weekend. I ordered the bedding set at 20 weeks, and it also sat in boxes until I was ready to move the office. I painted the room at 33 weeks, and DH moved the furniture in at 34 weeks. I'm glad we waited, because I seriously could spend hours in that room!!
We moved our computer to the living room (ordered a cute corner desk for $80 on Amazon.com and set up a few shelves that blend well with our existing furniture/decor).
I did make sure to ask BRU how any damage/complaints would be handled, seeing as how I was 90 days out of the purchase before setting the furniture up. They said it would be handled directly by the manufacturer (Europa), who said they would pay for shipping back to their factory if there were any concerns. (There weren't.)
We are still TTC but we have been preping our guest room for a nursery.
We went ahead and painted it a green and added chair rail. We also went ahead and purchased a dresser because we had a family member stay with us for 6 weeks so he used the dresser while he was there.
I have also picked up a couple things I have found discounted at Target that are gender neutral as well.
I don't really think its too early to at least get a start.
Good Luck!
This. We picked up our crib & dresser/changer last Sunday after it was shipped to the store. Great deal!
Ehhh 20 weeks or so? You shouldn't be moving furniture, period. Our room got stuff moved when my dad was available to come help move it. A friend of DH's also helped.
We just recently got the last non-baby item out of there (treadmill) and started decorating. It's about 85% done now, and I'm 33w. We still have to print pictures, hang wall art, get & hang the mobile, set up the shelving, wash all her clothes and organize, and put up some hooks.
Mine is almost finished. I wanted to start on it right away because I'm the handyman in the house and I had a lot of DIY projects. I also want to re-organize my house and I wanted to start in the babys room first and then the others.
I was also afraid of how I would feel later on. I did projects when I felt good and I don't feel rushed.

We started buying furniture at 20w but it's all in storage right now. We are using the future nursery as our TV/computer room until the redecorating is done in the rest of the house. We will probably start getting this all done at 30w and aim to have it finished by 33w.
I personally didn't want to do anything during first tri, and until our anatomy scan results were in.
