Babies: 3 - 6 Months

random crying in sleep?

For the past week DS has been crying out of no where while he's sleeping.  Normally it is in the middle of his day naps.  He will open his eyes and then shuts them right away like he is not even awake. Do you think  he might be having a bad dream or something?

  • DS use to do that too but it has been awhile. I honestly have no clue what it is.

  • I've thought that too! It freaks me out when I hear a huge wail, and then silence.

  • My DD used to do this when she was under 2 months all.the.time. It scared us in the middle of the night when she'd let out a huge terrified screech. But when we'd check on her, she'd be asleep.

The pedi said it was probably acid reflux. We got the the RNP and keep her elevated at night. It doesn't happen so much anymore.

DH was convinced it was a bad dreams. The pedi said babies this young "probably" don't dream about anything bad because they can't remember. Bad dreams don't really start until around 2... but some doctors will disagree.

This, but supposedly they don't dream until toddler-hood .

My LO does this a lot. I have no idea why. It's actually a really loud, sad cry, but his eyes are completely closed and he falls back asleep. From what I read, I think it might be his "partial wakening" between sleep cycles.

  • DD has started to do this within the past week.  I thought it was teething pain.
