Anyone have a kid who refuses breakfast?

M will not eat breakfast. She wakes up, and must sit on the couch with a show and a cup of milk. After that, she may eat a few grapes, but it takes her about an hour and a half to eat. She's a great eater, and not picky at all, but she just will not eat breakfast. When my other 2 wake up, you'd think they hadn't eaten in a month. Their breakfast better be waiting when they wake up or they'll die.

  • First - Love your amended siggy.

Nat could really care less if she had breakfast or not.  She'll eat about 1/2 the time, and almost always cold cereal or yogurt, and not until about 9 a.m.

  • My kids both skipped breakfast and dinner today.  They live on air.  DS mostly has milk and fruit for breakfast, usually a little bit of a banana or a few grapes or some apple.  If you are worried about it, or she is hungry before the next time you are able to feed her, you can always give her carnation with her milk.  My DD will eat smoothies with fruit, peas, and peanut butter, so that might be something to try.
  • DS will usually eat a little bit for breakfast and super slow if he actually does eat it.  He tends to eat a little more if it's non-traditional breakfast food like pb sandwiches and the like.  Unfortunately for us, he is super picky and prefers not to eat even though he claims he's always hungry! We usually end up taking him to DD once or twice a week for breakfast and again once or twice for lunch to get him to eat something...the kid could care less for the donuts buts he's obsessed with the egg and cheese croissants...
  • I'm not worried (she's 33 lbs, bigger than my 4 year old) and hell no to the carnation. She eats all of her other meals/snacks. I'm not concerned about her in the slightest, I'm just wondering how many kids hate breakfast. DH hates it, too.
  • My middle DD can be like that some mornings.  She's my light eater anyways, and sometimes she just DOES NOT want anything.

I'm not a big fan of pushing food...but my issue with this is that my DD seems to have some blood sugar issues and when she hasn't eaten and she's a MONSTER.  LIke irrational and out of control.  So sometimes I think she's refusing the breakfast because she's just out of control and not thinking clear, if you know what I mean??  Like she is refusing, I think she's hungry because she's just insane, and well, its breakfast time, she SHOULD be hungry.  I try to get her a drink of juice when she's like this and wait 10 minutes or so and she comes around most of the time...or I can at least get her to eat a bit of yogurt.

  • Breakfast is a struggle for me.  I try not to make meal times struggles but 2 of the 3 would rather not eat.  And I cannot stand the thought of sending them off for the day without breakfast.

Waking them up a bit earlier seems to help (so they're awake for longer before they have to eat).  And I find calorie dense foods that are easy to eat quickly -- pb toast, turkey sausage links, hard boiled eggs.

  • Funny, I've been going through this lately w. JD; he claims he just isn't hungry/doesn't want breakfast; I let him wait and then he still picks and moans over whatever I give him. I was just wondering to my H this morning at what age people who aren't breakfast eaters become that way, like maybe his body really doesn't want food in the morning. Obviously, I still make him breakfast and "encourage" him to eat it. I don't think I'd ever be really ok w him skipping breakfast when he has to go to school and all.

  • I hate breakfast, you could not pay me to eat it.

DD is the same way her breakfast everyday is a glass of OJ, like you I don't care as she is fine in the weight and height department and eats all her other meals.

  • DS was like that for a long time. He just wanted a cup of milk. Once he turned 3, I think, he really started being hungry in the morning.
