Hi, I am new here and I am currently 9 weeks pregnant. My work has HMO so I don't have much choice on the hospital. Any one with experience at St Joe? Thanks.
I have not given birth yet but my Dr is associated with the hospital. We did a hospital tour early on as I was also a bit nervous as I hadn't heard much of about it, but I really enjoyed the tour and all the people we met. We are starting our classes in the New Year so I would have a bit more feedback then.
I did and had a great experience..I also had a great OB so not sure if that made a differende ..don't post very often but always tell myself I will especially now that i can get all the advice I can get with a newborn..let me know if you have other questions
I haven't yet, but I will in April. My OB delivers at both St Joe's and Northwestern and she recommended St Joes. She says the nursing staff is more experienced and the anesthesiologists are not residents, so you just have people with more knowledge taking care of you. She also said that the whole experience is better at St Joes b/c they're not running on an assembly line of labor and delivery like NW does.
We aren't going for our classes until March, but a woman I work with has taken a few there already (she's due to deliever there in Feb) and said that they were pretty good.
Hope this helps. I too was a little apprehensive about delivering there, but all that I've learned has helped set my mind at ease!
Hello... I will also be giving birth there. My sister and sister in law both given birth there this year. That is a great hospital. I've been going there since I was 6 years old. Who is your doctor?
Thanks for all the response. I am with Women First Specialists. They are a group of 5 doc, anyone of them could delivery the baby. I met with 2 of them and they seem nice. Going for genetics screening in St Joe in 2 weeks... fingers crossed!!
I am also with Women First Specialists. My doctor is Dr. Hoffman. She is pretty awesome. My sister in law had her as well. I've seen Dr. Hidalgo and Dr. Lombard so far from there.
I'm actually a Labor and Delivery Nurse at St. Joe's! It's a great place, both to work and to deliver a baby. The rooms are LDRP so you stay in the same room throughout your stay. They keep the nurse to patient ratio very nice so usually there's just one patient for each nurse while in labor.
I also see Dr. Hoffman and since I see all of the doctors that come through there you can take that as a very good recommendation! It's pretty easy for a doc to be calm, cool and collected during office hours but at 3 in the morning that entire group has shown me that they can also handle tough situations with a pleasant attitude. I will be delivering my baby at St. Joes in August! I think it's important to be treated as a patient and not a number as I've heard can happen at certain large hospitals downtown. As a previous poster mentioned the anesthesiologists are all attendings and we also have a level 3 nicu.
Oh I'm so happy to read everyone's positive comments! I'll be giving birth at St. Joseph in August. I went there last weekend for my first ultrasound and everyone was so friendly, so I took that as a good sign
I had my son there. My OB said the same about previous PPer...quieter and less of a baby factory...very individualized care. I LOVED all of my nurses. They were so knowledgeable and had time to really take care of us. They also have specialzed lactation consultants instead of nurses trained to help in breastfeeding. we were a little put off by the condition of the building...let's just say it's not shining like Prentice but it's the staff inside that makes the difference. Great classes too...I went to classes at another hospital too and thought the info from St. Joe's was a lot more plentiful, clear, informative and current. You made a good choice. If we weren't moving to the burbs, I'd have future babies there too!
I'm expecting to give birth at St Joe's near the end of May and was there this time last year for a D & C after a miscarriage. All of the nurses, residents, and my
anesthesiologist there were great. My OBGYN, Dr. Takhsh from Chicago Women's Health, was also there and got me in last minute with no problem. It was very quiet and I was well attended to. Looking forward to delivering there in May!
I am delivering at St. Joes in June with my first baby! I'm very excited, but very nervous. I'm wondering if the staff is supportive of natural births at all? I am considering doing that vs. getting an epidural and am hoping St. Joes is supportive of this choice. I am also seeing Dr. Lomard and Hidalgo. Thanks for your information!
