Has anyone used Medicaid?

So, I was living in England for the past five years and came back to the states when I was 16 weeks pregnant. I haven't been to see a doctor since then because I didn't have any pregnancy insurance and am still waiting for my Medicaid application to be approved (I do have other insurance, but it doesn't cover my pregnancy and I can't afford it otherwise) I was wondering how long it takes for it to go through because I am already 21 weeks and am a bit worried about being behind on Dr visits. Any advice or information would be helpful, thanks! Also, can anyone recommend any good doctors and childbirth classes?

Re: Has anyone used Medicaid?

  • You dont have to wait for you application to be approved. That can take months. Go to a women's center, there is one in Lumberton, not sure where you are. They are good, and will take care of you until you can get insurance. (for free)

  • you can go to the clinic
  • I agree - go to a women's clinic and they should be able to help you there.
  • You dont have to wait for your application to go through. When you are pregnant, the moment you send you application in you are covered.. even before they mail you your card. You can go to any clinic in the area and they will set you up. Good luck to you!
  • Ok, see I am in the same situation, but the problem is, I have tried calling two clinics already and they say they won't see me until its approved or that they aren't taking anymore new Medicaid patients.  I feel like I am at such a loss because, despite having gotten on pregnancy Medicaid (which is supposed help women in situations like ours), I still can't find a doctor who will treat me and my baby!  It's so frustrating! I am 8 1/2 weeks and I don't want to get to 21 weeks or even 10 weeks and still not have gone to a doctor.  Any suggestions?  Please!!!!
