Developmental Pediatrician or Pediartric Neuropsychologist

My nearly 21 month old daughter has SPD "diagnosed" by her OT (She is in OT, PT, and Speech)  for developmental delays...and to address her array of sensory issues, but her therapy team and I think she may have some cognition issues as well...leaning toward ADD/ADHD and/or Aspergers...

Which of the above specialists would you recommend (at such an early age)...

Thank you for your assistance

    Hi,

My oldest son also has SPD but no further diagnosis. He was diagnoised through EI at almost 2 years old and recieved services (OT and Speech) through EI till the age of 3. He now receives services through the public school system.

My son's OT from EI recommended a Development Pediatrician for futher follow up and I believe the Peds Neuropsychologist will work along side them if necessary.

I personally have not been able to see a Development Pediatrician but If will be working on that. My son is a totally different child now although he still has some work.

    Good luck and HTH.

    Hi,

Every dr I have asked has told me there is no point to a neuropsych on a child under 5 years of age.  My vote is for the developmental pedi.  Did a developmental pedi examine your daughter to qualify her for early intervention?  If not, you may want to see if you can arrange such an eval or make a private appt.

I have heard this too and that you want to try and schedule the neuropsych testing as a means to help support your IEP especially if you need special accommodations. I have known people who have done this for their child at age 6 or 7 and now keep the report in with the child's IEP. You can probably test at an earlier age, but the testing is very expensive and not always covered by insurance. To get the most bang for your buck you want to wait a bit so that the test can be administered to a school ready child. Good Luck!
