Success after IF

So PGD only on "delayed" FETs? Anymore testing I can do?!

This is our 2nd FET. Day 6 (day 5 blasts transfered) and I'm still getting a BFN.

Last month I had asked about PGD testing and RE told me that it wouldn't work well in my situation because they normally do the testing on a fresh embryo, then they freeze it until they get results and then you do a FET the next month or whatever.

This seems bizare to me.

I just feel like I need some sort of answer as to why all the BFNs. 1 IVF and now possibly 2 FETs. All with great embryos. I'm so confused. We've thawed out 13 embryos in the last 2 months(back to back FETs) and they've not made it? I almost feel like telling the RE to do something more aggressive, but what else is there!?

I'm so pissed about this all.

  • I think what you are describing is CGH testing ( I could be wrong) and at most clinics that is how it works.  I looked into this after I thought I was miscarrying again after my 2nd FET and I was told that these procedures can't be done after the freezing.

What testing have you had done so far?

    Sorry, hon. :(

  • None of that sounds right.

We did PGD and it was a fresh cycle but my RE told us we could include our other frozen embryos that were being stored at our old RE in the testing. We didn't have to freeze and wait a month either, it was a 5 day transfer.

Hope you get some answers soon!

Am I wrong or when doing PGD- aren't you looking for something specific to test for?

Again, sounds like the RE was describing CGH.

  • I'm not even sure what testing I've had done. When we first went to him we did a bunch of BW and he said everything looks fine. I also had BW done at Cornell that he looked over before our 1st IVF and both RE's said everything's fine. (we didn't move forward with Cornell because of insurance reasons, but our insurance ran out after our 2nd IVF so now we're all OOP)

Before my first FET (a few months ago) they repeated the BW, they took like 7 vials of BW, but, again, everything's "fine".

  • We had karyotyping done after we had a few miscarriages.  You might want to look into doing this.

  • Smilee.....what did they find with the karyotyping?  Just wondering?  Since I just had a M/C and we are planning on a FET.

I was thinking this as well!

Maybe get a 2nd opinion from another RE?

Yes they are. We also did karotyping and that's where we discovered the inversion. I think you're right he probably meant CGH. Karotyping is the best place to start.

They found that we are both "normal" and that apparently we just have bad luck.  Both DH and I were tested and they found no abnormalities.

I am sorry about your m/c.  They SUCK. :(

  • Well that's good that you are "normal!"  Good to know..huh!??!  HAHA!  How do I go about asking for this?  Do you think they would do it for us since we only had one M/C?

MrsRyan...what did they find with yours?  I never heard of that before....!?

Karotyping looks at the chromsomes in both you and your Dh's dna. It will find things like translocations and inversions, which both cause m/c's. I'm sure it looks for more but this is what I am familiar with. We found an inversion in chromo 10 so we knew to include chromo 10 in our PGD.

it does not hurt to ask, although I *think* some insurance companies will not pay for it is there have not been recurrent losses, etc. Which sucks.
