I told my principal that I was pregnant this week. We are a very close-knit school and are all friends so I'm thinking my situation is very different than most (from what I've heard). I talked with her about our problems TTC because I had so many appointments over the last few months for b/w and appointments. She has been a support for me and has been so wonderful about letting me leave early (and not have to take 1/2 days off) throughout the whole process.
Only 2 close friends know at work, and both of them know because they've had to watch my kids when I have to pee or dry heave. I teach first grade, so the pregnancy symptoms can be a bit tricky at times!
I told my principal that I wanted to wait a little bit before the announcement is made to the entire staff. I'm thinking end of February. I'll be about 10 weeks. I know a lot of other ladies wait longer to tell, but we are such a close staff---I can't wait to share the news with them. Hopefully I can wait until then, I am having a hard time not blabbing!
Tell them when you feel comfortable and ready to. Everyone's situation is different.
Well, I already told my principal that I am pregnant. She was one of the first to know, other than DH of course. She's aware of my losses and since I don't miss school much (ever, really), I wanted her to know because she would have to be accomodating for all of my appts and b/w. Which she has been.
Now, if I were to tell her that I was spaghetti sauce, she would definitely give me the side eye and tell me to take a leave to rest my brain.
HELP! I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO! Do I tell my Principal or not?
My school board is accepting applications for Vice Principals by Feb.17, and I need my P's endorsement. This is something I've been striving for the past 3 years (getting all my qualifications). I want to get on the eligible to hire list and have the security knowing I have a promotion. If I do tell her, I'm afraid I'll get burnt, and she will not endorse me, b/c I'll be on mat.leave next year. However, I feel bad for not telling her, b/c I have been taking a lot of time off recently due to "medical reasons" (1-2days / week since returning from Christmas Break), and I'm sure that's been raising a few eyebrows. But I don't necessarily want to jump the gun, b/c I'm still in my 1st tri, and we all know anything can happen (God forbid)....My coworkers are all fabulous, and everyone is concerned about me, since I look and act like a zombie come lunch time. Thankfully I haven't been too bloated, and I even managed to wear a "skinny outfit" on Thursday (to dispell any rumors). However, my secretary (who doesn't let anything get by her) secretly asked me last week if I was preg. I lied to her and told her "no not yet" b/c I didn't want it broadcasted throughout the entire community (it's a small, tight-knit school community).
I told my department and AP at 8 weeks - early, but as one of my CWs pointed out today, "who doesn't know - you've practically puked near everyone who works here!".
Basically I was missing a lot of work and having other teachers cover classes during the day to throw up. They were totally supportive - as expected.
I'm planning to wait until the end of the first trimester, so the 1st or 2nd week of March. I'm tempted to just wait until I start showing, but we need to let our principle know before the end of March if we plan to return and under what conditions (I'm at a private school). I'm also worried about telling her I'll be missing the first couple months of school (especially because my school can fire anyone at anytime for any reason). I'm sure it'll be fine though.
