I currently work 2 12-hour shifts a week...sometimes they are consecutive days, and sometimes they are not. My LO currently nurses 3-4x a day when we are together and gets EBM while I am at work. I currently am able to meet his demands by pumping only once while I am on my lunch break at work, and I usually pump again when I get home from work. I do have a pretty decent freezer stash. I know many women stop pumping at work around a year, but I am a little nervous about stopping completely since my shifts are so long. I can continue to pump once at work if I absolutely need to, but I would love to be able to be done with that if I can and can maintain my supply enough to nurse at least 1-2x a day when I am home with him.
My LO is a few weeks shy of a year. I was planning on letting him self-wean or gently attempting to wean him if he hasn't done so completely by about 18 months, although that may change since I still have no PPAF and am hoping to TTC in the next few months.
Does anyone else have experience with an older baby nursing as often as mine does and working 12-hour shifts and can advise? Oh, and when you add in my commute time, having to arrive early for my shift and usually stay late, I would be going more like 14 hours in between feedings. And I would still need to pump when I get home from work (I get home around midnight when LO is asleep, and he is up for his first nursing session around 5:30am).
Thanks for any input!
