Success after IF

RE's answer to clomid/ectopic link...

I posted last week about my suspicion that clomid was at least part of the cause of ectopics for me. I've been pg twice and both times had ectopics.

(background: With DD I had lap surgery at 6wks pg because they thought there were 3 stuck in my tubes. Surgery turned up nothing there and the followup u/s the next day was clear. Ended up losing her twin about 3 weeks after surgery and I'll always wonder if I hadn't had that surgery....)

Anyway, I emailed my N.P. about my suspicion and she just emailed me back the RE's response. I'd like to know what you ladies think.

"although the package insert states there is risk for ectopic, that is a general statement. There is no study or research that demonstrates taking clomid causes ectopic pregnancy. We could use low dose injectable gonadotropins in lieu of the clomid."

Based on one bumpies reply to my post (sorry can't remember who it was) I'm not sure this is a good solution. Aren't gonadotropins similar to clomid? Meaning if I'm one of the lucky one's that it causes puffiness in wouldn't gonadotropins do the same?

I'm not familiar with gonadotropins. Has anyone used this? What are the names that might be familiar? And... what does this rx cost typically for an iui cycle? I want to be prepared.

Uggg... so many question... Thanks!!!!

siggy should be here!

  • I wish I knew more about all of this to give you any sort of info/experience!  all i know is that the med $$ vary based on the kind of meds you are on and how much you end up needing to get the follies you want/need.

  • She's talking about something like Gonal F or Follistim which are injectibles.  I never even used Clomid.. RE had me go straight to Gonal F because she thought I'd respond better to inj.  I don't know what they cost (we are covered by ins) but I think each vial is a few hundred $.  All would depend on how long you have to stim on it.
