Lo's blood culture came back positive for E. Coli. Oh, the E. Coli has nothing to do with her feeding
issues or weight gain. This is on top of that.
So, the infectious control doctor came in and said she
has to be on IV antibiotic for her blood infection. Our choices are to start a
PICC line and treat at a local hospital daily or treat IV in here. After dealing
with her stomach flu at the local hospital I'm pretty sure none of the local
hospitals are going to deal with at 7 month old with a PICC line. The treatment takes 7 days after 2 blood cultures come
back negative. So best case senerio we will be in the hospital until next
Thursday!
Re: A continuation to Lo in hospital!
E. coli exists naturally in and on everyone. They believe that from her gut being irritated from the milk protein allergy, the E. coli was able to access the blood stream via the gut. They said it has nothing to do with what she's had in her mouth or where we've taken her in the hospital. We couldn't help this.
