Ok so i know im never going to wear my wedding dress again, and my mom and best friend insist that i turn it into a christening gown.. and while this sounds great i dont know if i can part with it.. i drove all the way to Kleinfelds in NY to get my gown and then i paid way too much for it.. but on the other hand it will be extremely special that my daughter will get to wear a peice of my wedding dress.. it think the hardest part will be seeing it in shreds but on the other side i will have something beautiful for my daughter.... i need some advice is anyone else thinking of turning their wedding dress into a christening or any other type of clothing for their baby????
Re: Wedding dress/ christening gown??
One of DHs aunt did this and it was so special! Well, Christening suits for her little boys I guess I should say. I immediately fell in love with the idea and would like to do this, but I think I can only do so if I have a girl. It has LOTS of silver lace which wouldn't really work for a little boys Christening Suit.
I agree that the hardest part in making the decision is wondering if I could actually bear to part with the dress to be "destroyed" I'm reminding myself though that it's not being destroyed - it's being made in to something for future generations to use. If I have a daughter she could wear it and any girls from there after could use it too (as long as it's kept up nicely)
I am! My dress had a pick-up skirt and after we had it cleaned, the seamstress let all the pick-ups out and detached it from the bodice so it's one flat piece of fabric. I haven't gotten to the next step yet, but I can't wait!
Yes, I have a blog and it's hilarious (except when it's not)
I am planning to do that with mine. I have a client of mine that is going to make a dress and a pant suit. I'm not sure if my dress has enough usable fabric, but if not, it will still be part of both outfits.
I was having a hard time deciding to part with my dress too, but I would hate for it to just sit in the attic or basement getting ruined when I could make it into something my kids can wear and then pass down through the family.
This is the same for me; I'd love to do it but I don't think the fabric of my dress would work.
I'm planning on making a Baptism gown out of my dress if we have a girl. I don't like the dresses I saw online, so I think this would be a nice way to use my dress.
Or maybe someone can make a small baby blanket and pillow out of the dress for the baby? I don't know. I'd like to use it for something instead of it just sitting in a closet.
