Requesting IF Insurance

After yesterday's post about IF insurance at your company, I decided it couldn't hurt to ask. So I sent an email to our HR department asking them why IF is not covered and if it could be added. I also asked if it could not be covered, if they could offer it as an option with a higher premium. We'll see what they say. Tongue Tied

Yea me too! I even quoted an article online that said that infertility insurance costs $1 per month per employee. Then said that the quote we got from the RE was $14,500 per cycle without insurance.

  • Hi Ladies, I think I can help with this one since I design the benefits plan for my company. The reason why most companies do not offer IF coverage is obviously based on the cost. Regardless if a single employee uses the coverage or not, the premium cost to employers sky rocket... literally.

Therefore to even have an IF rider as part of a group plan, the rates go up tremendously. Smart employers, use this as a huge marketing ploy to get candidates to consider joining their company versus another. That's why, you'll mainly see great IF benefit offerings at larger companies (the more employees you have, the better rates you can secure).

Hope that helps a bit! FYI, we don't offer any IF coverage at my start up company. Believe me, I've inquired for obvious reasons, but definitely couldn't justify the increase to my c-staff.
