My LO never got one in the hospital, and havent used one. Do you think its something i should buy in case she gets really fussy? What brand are you all using? Anyone not using one all together? I am having some pictures of her taken next week and was thinking maybe it could come in handy then if she's fussy. Or maybe i shouldnt have her use one at all, do you think its kinda late to introduce one now if she hasnt been fussy by now. TIA for any idea.

    Mine got a 'soothie' brand in the hospital (her favorite), and we have a handful more of random ones.  She also sucks her fists to soothe, so she'd be a good baby to give a binkie to anyway... she has to have one in the car because her arms are kinda pinned and it freaks her out.

    I'd ask your pedi about it.  I don't think introducing one would be damaging or whatever, but if she doesn't need it, it seems like an unnecessary expense.

    I've tried to give my LO one, but she doesn't really like it. The only reason I keep trying is that she litteraly wants to suck all the time. If it's just an occasional need to randomly calm your LO down or to tied her over while you get ready to feed her, you can use your finger - flesh side up, nail side down. This is what my LO perfers.

    Well I think that is up to you. I imagine not all babies have a strong need for it. We bought some Avent ones before we had LO, just in case, and I was glad I did. He was born with his hand up to his face and sucking on his fingers. He obviously had a VERY strong sucking reflex, so it really helps calm him and get him to sleep. But if your daughter hasn't really needed it yet, I wouldn't worry about it. Some babies won't take them.

    Thanks for all your ideas. My LO doesnt suck on her hands or fingers or anything, so maybe i'll buy one just in case, but i wont use it unless she seems to need it.

    My LO likes the MAM (we also tried Dr. Brown's but didn't go so well). He likes to always suck so I like to use this instead of my nipples.

    avent soothie type and gerber nuk is what my lo likes, i tried tomme tippee  (sp?) she did not like it so first go for the least expensive ones so how it goes
