Pregnant after IF

Success with antagonist protocol after failed IVFs?

Hi ladies!  I am beginning IVF#3.  Needless to say I'm a quite nervous.  I don't know how I would handle another failed cycle.  So, I am trying to remain positive and would love to hear some success stories.  Has anyone failed previous IVF cycles and then have the antagonist protocol work for you?  If so, what were you previous cycles like (protocol, ER, ET, etc.) compared to your successful IVF?  TIA! :)

Re: Success with antagonist protocol after failed IVFs?

  • My 4th and last IVF cycle (my only successful one) was antagonist. My other three involved Lupron but were not the traditional Lupron most people on The Bump seem to follow (my clinic had their own protocols that weren't the same as others out there). Anyway, in some ways, my 4th cycle wasn't my most promising - I had virtually the same number of eggs at ER but fewer mature than ever before. We always did ICSI (mfi; low morph) so fert rates weren't an issue. By day 5, I only had 1 good embryo left to transfer (my first 3 IVFs I had 2-3). That said, it was my first BFP and I'm now nearing my due date. GL!

Thank you for sharing!  And good luck to you!  You are almost there.  Congratulations.

  • I am not really sure what protocol my successful IVF cycle was, but since it involved Ganirelix, I assume that it was semi-antagonist.  I did a flare protocol with microdose lupron but also ganirelix for the first few days.  I stopped the Ganirelix, continued the md-lupron and started stims (Menopur only).  Once my follicles were 14mm I went back on Ganirelix and continued Menopur until I was ready for the trigger.

My first two IVF's (both unsuccessful) were standard antagonist.  BCP's for a month, started follistim and menopur on CD3, introduced Ganirelix around CD10, triggered around CD13.

  • First 2 were long lupron and the last was antagonist. As you can see, it worked!  There was not much of a difference as far as # retrieved and fertilized, but I also did intralipids, gonal f plus menopur, and was on synthroid.
