Success after IF

What does your LO do to self-soothe?

Hayden sleeps with a blanket, a Pooh lovie and a stuffed Elmo. If he wakes up crying in the middle of the night, he will take his Pooh lovie and rub it in between his thumb and first finger to calm himself down. I think it is cute and great that he can self-soothe. What does your LO do to self-soothe?

  • He doesn't. LOL. Well, he takes my or DH's arm. He needs physical contact from us. We can be asleep though, so no action on our part required, but this is why he still sleeps with us.

  • Jacob still takes a paci, so that's his main mode of soothing.  But since he only gets it in his crib, we are working on other ways for him to soothe himself.  I wish he would take a lovey!

  • He has a blanket and pacifier.  His blanket is one my mom knit (and it MUST be that blanket!) and it's is a looser knit so there are little holes between stitches and he likes to stick his fingers through them for some reason.  :)

  • Lilah uses a paci and a monkey she NEEDS them both!  She rubs monkey's tail on her nose.

Amelia uses a paci at times, but it isn't a constant, she soothes and spits it out.  I have also given her a small lamb to hold while sleeping that she likes.

  • Elizabeth does the samet thing. I'll watch her on the monitor and she'll reach out until she finds "blankie," a small crocheted square (the one underneath her in my sig photo). Once she has that, she goes back to sleep 99% of the time.

And as you can see from the photo, we have lovey overload in our house! The blanket and the angel dear duck are the main ones. Sometimes she also wants Blue and the pacifiers. She never actually uses them, she just likes to hold them!

After 20 months, 3 Clomid cycles and 4 IUI cycles, IVF #1 with ICSI = BFP!

  • Bennett isn't a great self soother, but when he's relaxing he smooths down the tail of his stuffed mouse that he sleeps with. If one of our dogs is by him, he does the same with the dog's ear.

  • One word - Binky. She needs her Binky to get to sleep and also to soothe herself if she is upset. It is going to be ugly when have to say goodbye to Binky.

  • She tucks herself up with her favorite blanket and talks to her stuffed bear.  She also needs a stuffed stitch, and my stuffed bear from childhood, standing guard at the top of her crib.  As long as she has those, she soothes herself back to sleep.

  • We're very fortunate because Alana has been self-soothing since she was very little, and it's adorable!!

Her thumb goes in her mouth (but only until she falls asleep and then it comes out) and she pulls her leg all the way up until her foot is along side her cheek and she rotates her ankle.  I know it sounds weird but it's really adorable!

Sometimes she'll still have her foot up when she flips over to her belly and then one leg is tucked all the way up under her.  I always think she's going to break her leg, but, she's just really limber, lol.

  • DD does the same as your son.  She sleeps with a blanket, a small taggies lovey and a doll.  She loves holding things and during the day she'll carry around a washcloth.  Sometimes when she is really upset I have noticed that she'll hold her breath for a second and that seems to calm her down as well.

  • Both of mine need their pacis.  DS sleeps with 2 - one in his mouth, one in his hand.  I also have started giving him an angel dear lovey so that when we do try to take the pacis away, he will have something else.

DD also has an angel dear lovey - she likes to put it over her face.  We don't really like that, so we go in after she is asleep and move it off to the side Smile
