What am I doing wrong re: frozen/thawing bananas

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here. According to wholebabyfood.com, it says instead of pureeing and then freezing bananas, you should peel, cut in half and freeze.

I froze a bunch of bananas the other day and took one out of the freezer yesterday and put it in the fridge to thaw. This morning, it was very brownish, gooey and there was brown juice in the bag with it.

I then took another one out and thought I'd let it thaw on the counter. Didn't turn out quite as bad, but still very gooey and brownish.

Am I doing something wrong, or is this how everyone else's turns out?

TIA!

  • I puree mine and freeze them in ice cube trays then put them in Ziplocs, like I do everything else, and it works great.

  • I just buy fresh every week & mash half up with a fork.  Works perfect.

  • I don't freeze the bananas either. I just cut off what I want and mash with a fork. I either eat the rest of the banana myself or leave it unpeeled (except for the little exposed part) until I am ready for more for DD and I cut off the little exposed part, peel more, and repeat. GL!

  • I've both pureed and frozen and served fresh with no problems.  IDK why the freezing whole isn't working. Maybe it's related to thawing out?  I always pop my frozen cubes in the microwave for about 15 seconds rather than setting out.

  • that is very, very normal. i freeze bananas all the time for banana bread, and when it thaws, that's the way it comes out. does not affect taste or quality. it's fine.
