Success after IF

1st birthday sadness

I find myself so sad over the fact that the girls are turning a year old next week.  I mean, of course I am thrilled that they are happy and healthy and I love watching them grow, but I am so sad over the fact that I will never get this time with them again.  And they'll officially be toddlers and not babies anymore.  This year FLEW and it's hard to believe how quickly they turn from tiny little snuggly things to little girls with personality who walk all over the place.

No real point to this.  Just bringing it up since I am sure many of you understand.  MH totally doesn't get it and says he can't wait for the day they can "wipe their own butts."  Sigh...  Wink

I make myself feel better my remembering that each day seems to bring something new to laugh and smile about.

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

Re: 1st birthday sadness

  • Not there yet, but I can relate.  Andrew turns 7 months old this week and I have no idea how that happened! LOL!

I have to admit, I was admiring your new siggie pic earlier today (adorable, as always) and I thought to myself "huh...look at them standing up now.  When did that happen?"  and I looked at your ticker and couldn't believe they were 11 months old!

I think you are onto something...while you won't get those early days back, each day will get better and better as they continue to grow!

  • Wow, I can't believe they are almost a year. I think I wrote a very similar post last spring when Hayden turned 1. It is kind of a bittersweet moment. However I can tell you from experience, it only gets better. They will talk more and begin to understand the world around them. They will love to interact with people and things on a more personal level. Watching them grow up is hard but fulfilling at the same time. (However I am still in denial that he will be 2 in less than 4 months.) Smile

I know mine are only 3 months old but I can't believe they are that old either, Ilook back at pics from a month ago and it's amazing how much they've changed.

  • I am SO right there with you. I feel like K's baby years flew by. Now I look at her walking, trying to talk, feeding herself and just acting like a toddler and I'm so sad that she's not a little baby anymore.

BUT, the toddler years are SO MUCH FUN. I swear, K cracks us up on a daily basis.

  • I was never good at the infant stage, so was kind of happy when the year came and went. Now that I am 3 months into his toddler years I am getting sad. He learns a new thing every single day and I will miss this time the most. He is so super fun right now and it does go by all too fast.

A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

  • I felt the same way when Katie turned one. It was really bitter sweet that she was no longer my little baby anymore : ( BUT they really start getting so fun as toddlers.  Yes of course she has her moments where she is difficult but she is so funny and has such an amazing personality. It is wonderful watching their language develope and the hysterical things she says. While it is very sad saying goodbye to the baby moments you will have lots to look forward to this year!

It has been 80 here!  Our nanny is taking the girls to Legoland today.  I am jealous I am at work because I would rather be out enjoying this weather with them!

this, exactly. I think my favorite stage is always the one they're in right now, because they're doing amazing new things every day. Plus the increased independence allows me to do things like eat my breakfast while they eat theirs - being able to self-feed is wonderful!

  • The 1st birthday was definitely bittersweet to me too, but I was pretty focused on the party planning and celebrating with all our friends and family. It was such an awesome day and it helped me not think about the fact that she was growing up. My MIL just gave us a DVD of her birthday party at Christmas, and it was amazing how much younger and smaller she seemed than now. Even though they will officially toddlers now, they will be your babies forever. Have fun celebrating in that beautiful weather!

  • Sign me up! hahaha

My SIL just moved to vegas and she has been rubbing it in and she flies to SD all the time for work.

I'll be in CA in August, but it's northern CA, Eureka, from what I hear the Hippy capital of the world;)

  • I know how you feel. Although I was thrilled when DD rolled over for the 1st time this morning, it reminds me of how quickly she is growing up. :(

Big hugs - they are adorable, precuious little girls!

PS - love the new siggy pic!

  • I am right there with you!  Brady will be one on Friday next week and it has all gong soooooo fast!  It is so cool to watch him learn and do new things, but I wish I could slow down time at least a little.  It is almost hard to remember what it was like when he was only a month or two old.  I marvel every day at how my 5lb 7oz preemie has turned into a nearly 25lb little boy!

    Hugs.  I empathize!

  • :(

that's normal.  i felt the same way.  ((hugs))

  • My sister is in LA, she was here over Christmas and my mother had her shoveling snow for old time sake. So now that she is in the 80's and we are buried up to the first floor in snow, she sends us pictures of her at the beach - brat!

I will be in LA in July for work. I wonder why they have me going there in JULY instead of January Angry

  • Love this new siggy pic!  And equally jealous of your warm weather.

Also, yes, 1st birthday's are very bittersweet.  It's hard to imagine my girl ever being a little baby at this point.  Thankfully I have photos showing that she was, once, tiny.

  • I can understand where you are coming from.  The first year of Reed's life was such whirlwind with me getting pregnant again so soon, and then it was hectic when I had a 13 month old and a newborn.  I was just saying to DH the other day...How did this happen?  We have an almost 1.5 year old and a 2.5 year old!
  • Been there, done that, stained my commemorative t-shirt with copious amounts of tears.

It sucks...but the good thing is, the second year is turning out to be a BLAST.  She is soooo much fun right now that it takes some of the sting out of her turning into a big girl, and not being my tiny little baby anymore.

    (((Hugs)))

  • (((HUGS)))!!  And they are so adorable!!!
  • Aw! But trust me, the second year is even more fun than the first. Every single day will be something new and exciting. And one step closer to wiping their own butts ;)

  • It was hard for me too! I sometimes wonder if his 10th (double digits,)  13th (teenager,) or 18th (adult...eek,) birthdays will be hard too.

  • Eli will be 4 months old next month and I'm having trouble that he's no longer a "newborn"  He's looking more and more little boy/babyish.  Its so fun to see what he learns...but i understand the sadness.  I pick him up and he seems SOOO heavy to me.
