Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Who used a Moby Wrap?

I didn't have one with DS. We used the Bjorn. But I'm thinking for the next time around, I might want one. Pros and cons? And how long did you use it?

  • I have one, and I have never used it. It still has the tags on it! It seemed too complicated for me, and LO was not a fan of being worn.

  • I used the moby from when the baby was born until he was 4 months old.  It got to hot where I live to wander all over town in a moby.  I switched to an ergo and a mei tei and I love them both. He is 11 months and I'm comfortable carrying him in either one.

  • I really liked it, but we didn't use it ton. It was the only thing that kept me sane during the colic days!

This exactly. It was too hot to wear at times, but Mae loved it. She would pass out the minute I put her in it.

I liked it better when she could support her neck a bit b/c I could never get it tight enough to feel comfortable.

  • A moby is very cuddly and a good option for a newborn. Since it's stretchy it's useful till about 15 lbs and then starts to sag from the weight and won't feelthat comfortable. It also has a learning curve. A ring sling is another great option for a newborn and still has a learning curve but it's not as much material so it might not feel as overwhelming. Plus I still use our ring sling and it can easily hold a toddler. Now at toddler age you wouldn't be wearing it for hours due to weight but still great for in and out trips. With a newborn it could be easily worn for hours though. Sleepingbaby.net has great ring slings!

  • I had one, I used it a lot with DD1 but then not as much with DD2 since I had the Ergo.  I LOVE the ergo and it's totally worth the money.
  • I made my own. I bought material at Joann's and according to the moby website and other's like it you need 6 yards (yep 6) of material like polyester or something stretchy. The moby website and others show you how to tie it based on the hold you want.

I bought the 6 yards of a purple polyester material and cut it in half lengthwise. I gave one to my SIL to use with her baby and I kept the other one for Emma. I wore Emma nearly everywhere we went when she was tiny. Much easier than carting the carseat everywhere and she was snuggled next to me closer than in a bjorn.

  • I loved it, however it's not your best option during the hot months.  I loved how cuddly and close I could be with DS in it.

I use a Beco carrier now and love it too.

  • No

    1) It killed my back

    2) DD over-heated in it and hated it too

    3) I could never get it tied just right, DD would start to slouch in it.

I rec. looking into the Ergo instead...soooo much better. Weight is balanced on your hips, not your back and shoulders like with the Moby.

  • I used it until she was about 4 months, then switched to the Ergo because she was starting to sag in it.  There were days here and there I'd pull it out up to even up to 6 or 7 months if she was really crabby and wouldn't nap.  I'd put her in it and rock in the glider and she'd be out - that's the only thing that never worked with the Ergo :)

  • it was too hot and difficult to throw on quickly. i prefer the baby k'tan carrier which is similar but easier to use because it has much less material and you don't have to wrap it. the k'tan is great for the newborn stages, but i still use it with lo at 20lbs.
  • I think if you have an early spring or fall baby it is a perfect gift but unfortunatly it is pretty hot and heavy for a summer baby.  Our DD was born late April and we had an unusually cool early summer so it worked great for about the first 3-4 months after that it just got to hot in IL for it.  DD did love it and it was wonderful those first few months so even though we didnt use it a ton after that I would totally recommend it to save your sanity those first few months.  After that the Ergo is awesome, but doesnt work great for a little bitty one.  It is a bit of a pain to put on but once you get the hang of it it's not bad.  I am hoping once spring comes to use it again a bit since it is nice for her to be able to ride front facing for shorter walks which she cant do in the Ergo.

  • It does seem a little crazy to put on at first, but it's pretty easy to get the hang of and then it is awesome! DD loves it and we still use it. It is my favorite when we travel, I hate bringing the stroller. And it's great because it will fit anyone, DH, grandparents, aunts, whoever.
