Holding LO too much

Do you think you hold your LO too much, or have people told you that you do?

I've had a couple comments from people that I hold Genna too much.  She loves being held and I love holding her.  I just feel like she's so tiny, and she's never going to be this small again.  Can you hold a baby too much??

Re: Holding LO too much

  • You absolutely cannot hold a baby Genna's age "too much." Babies are made to be held, that's why they are immobile and dependent on us. I'm pretty sure evolution didn't take bouncer seats and swings into account. If they were meant to fend for themselves, they'd pop out ready to walk like a giraffe.

Tell people to STFU. (Sorry, having a punchy kind of day. Stick out tongue)

  • I always hear you can't spoil a newborn, so I'd say no, you can't hold your baby too much!
  • No you can't.

You can't spoil your child with love and affection- you spoil them with crap and by giving in to them when they're old enough to be bratty.

H's Grandma tells me all the time I'm spoiling him, whatever. If not spoiling your baby turns them into what my FIL is- then I'll go ahead and take my chances.

  • My mom tells me this all the time Confused I love to hold her/ wear her and I will do so until she doesn't want me too. I get her concern that she won't be able to be held all the time at the sitters but thats not my problem...she is my cuddlebug and I don't care.

Haha, I love this.  That's how I feel too!

  • My mom tells me this all the time.  But I don't believe you can "spoil" a newborn.  Around 4 mos, they will start to become interested in other things and you can put them down on a play mat or swing/bouncy/etc.  But for now, their favorite thing to look at is Mommy and that's exactly what they should get!

  • No. It won't be long before our LOs blow us off in favor of playing with their friends or spending time with girlfriends/boyfriends so I say snuggle them as much as possible!

  • you definitely cannot hold a baby too much and you definitely cannot spoil a newborn.  a nurse once told me that up until 3-6months of age you can hold a baby as much as possible but after that they should learn to be a little more independent.  has something to do with newborns being in the 4th trimester and needing to know your there for them or whatever.
  • .....running off to go snatch Genna out of her swing....haha

  • I think I hold LO a lot, but I don't think you can ever hold a newborn too much.  They call the first three months the "fourth trimester" for a reason.  Once he's three months old, maybe I'll try not to hold him so much, but I'm enjoying it while I can.  I love holding him and having him sleep on my chest too much.

My mom tells me all the time that LO is going to get too used to being held and then I will be in trouble because I'll have to hold him all the time.  Whatever.

  • My mom has told me that it's ok to put her down to do things if i want, but has never said i hold her too much.  i also notice that my mom holds her the entire time when she has her!

I wish people would just remove their heads from their buttocks - i agree with telling them to STFU!  ;)

Hey!  Cameron is keeping me busy.  He's been fussier than normal.  Plus I have a cold. I finally figured out how to tie my Moby, so now I finally have two hands free.  I guess that's the one downside of holding LO... can't do much else.

Awww, he'll calm down.  Maybe a growth spurt??  Sorry you're sick, hope you feel better soon!  I know what you mean, I usually get all my "chores" done when H gets home to take her off my hands :-)

  • What OSC said. DH tells me I hold her too much, but I think he just wants more done around the house. Too bad buddy, most days you can find me on the couch with my snugglebug. And for the record Gia and I slept and snuggled together in bed until 11am, and I couldn't be happier!!!!!!! (I did feel a little lazy so I just shoveled to make up for it!)
