1. What are you thoughts? I like it, but only as a nn
2. Could this pass as a full name? (I dislike the name Margaret). It could, but it's too cutesy for my taste. I like giving the child an option of a more adult, professional name to use later in life. What about Magdalen, Magdalena or Magda?

I think it is nice and FWIW Jon Stewart named his dd Maggie (not short for anything). I think the only downside is that people will assume it is a nn. And I kind of like Margaret.
It is so darn cute! Not sure when she's older she'll appreciate no "formal" name. I am not a fan of any of the formal names though. I know someone who named their daughter Maggie with no formal name though...
only as a nickname, and as previous posters have said, there are a lotof names that can have the nickname of Maggie.
I once knew a girl named Meg -- not Megan or Margaret, and she spent her WHOLE LIFE explaining to people that her name was "just Meg." She says to use the full name -- it's easier on everyone.
I love Maggie, but not as a stand-alone name. I actually like it as a nn for Magnolia, but I know that's not for everyone.
Wow, I wouldn't have thought of Magnolia. That's very pretty!
Op, a friend named her daughter Maggie as a stand-alone name. I see nothing wrong with it. If that's what you want everyone to call her anyway, go for it!
Thanks everyone! And some of the full names suggested are OK (although I don't love any of them), but Maggie being a nn for Margot just doesn't make sense. I hate when people have nicknames that are the same amount of syllables as their full name; what is the point?
I am in the same spot as I LOVE the name Maggie but Margaret is my mothers name and using it would be like naming a child after her, which, IMO, is just odd.
I hate the alternatives though (Magdalina etc)

LOVE IT!! We were going to use it as a nickname for Mary.
I love it as a stand alone though too!!!
Yes, I know a friend who has a dog named Maggie, but I also have a friend who has a dog named Molly and that is our girl name. Who cares? One of my oldest friends was Maggie (stand alone) and she has never complained once about it. She loves her name.

Megan is also an option for a Maggie.
1. I absolutely love it.
2. No. I would choose a full name for her. Margot, Magnolia, Magdalena, Madelene...

1. Dislike. To me it's a dog's name.
2. No. I like Margaret but much prefer the nickname Meg over Maggie.

I like Maggie, but I'm not sure an adult woman would want that name. How about Margot, Magnolia,
