Feeling left out...

Everyday I come on the bump and hear about how all of you are experiencing contractions or this and that leading up to the big day! I can honestly say I feel absolutely nothing! I never feel contractions, not even BH. I refused an internal at my appointment yesterday for various reasons one of them being that I didn't feel like going through with it since I'm not having any "symptoms" of labor. I know I'm only 37wks, but it seems like everyone has been experiencing exciting stuff for weeks now!!! I don't even think this boy has dropped. I just hope I don't go over my due date by too much and have to be induced, that is my biggest fear at this point Crying

Any words of encouragement would be great!

Re: Feeling left out...

  • No words on encouragement, I am feeling the same way. I keep trying to tell myself that this pregnancy could still last another 4 weeks and I am so ready to meet my LO or at least feel like my body is doing something. I think that my little guy is super comfy and not heading out (or down) anytime soon. We can commiserate together

  • I have heard so many stories about women who have no labor symptoms, then BAM, their water breaks or they wake up with strong contractions and deliver later that day.  I bet that's exactly what will happen to you!

And are you sure you haven't had any BH contractions?  I can barely notice mine unless I'm really paying attention.  They feel the same as when LO pushes her butt out hard against me, except then I'll touch my belly and it will be hard all over, not just where her lil tush is.  And whenever I wake up in the middle of the night and have to pee, I'll sit on the toilet and notice that my belly is hard.  I think actually it's not having to pee that woke me, it's that I had a BH contrax.

Having labor symptoms are definitely not the same as going into labor--we all still have inside babies no matter how strong the symptoms are.  You're not missing anything!

  • In your same boat--no contractions, not one BH, but LO is in position and still cooking.  I think each pregnancy and labor is different, so hang in there, our time will come. :)
  • i feel you. i got checked one day short of 37 weeks because i had been having contractions every 30 minutes for 2 weeks. since then my contractions have totally stopped and baby has got higher instead of lower. i really don't want to be induced either! but my doctor told me not to bother with testing old wives tales since i'm not dialed at all

  • I think we're lucky! With my first, I had NO contractions, bh or otherwise beforehand. My ob would ask me every week and all I ever had to tell her was that I would get menstrual type cramps here and there. I delivered DD at 39w and 1d after two hours of labor. You can't compare yourself to others b/c we are all so totally different. I'm feeling grateful this time around again that I haven't had to deal with any contractions early on. Mine were so strong I only wish to greet them again when it's truly baby time.
  • Thanks ladies! Glad I'm not alone. I know all pregnancies are different and all women are different, I just thought I'd feel at least SOMETHING by now. I guess I will try to enjoy this "calm before the storm" because when he does decide to come it's going to be an intense experience!

Side note: I had a reality check the other day when I was watching Baby Story. That is, hearing him cry/his voice for the first time. How amazing will that be? Can't wait!!!!!

  • Nothings been happening here either...Just ONE contraction this past weekend. I feel like he doesn't want to come out! But I do know if this week nothing happens...we will end up inducing or c-section...depending what the doctor thinks we should do.

  • One of my best friends had no contractions or signs of labor and then at exactly 38 weeks her water broke and she had her baby later that day. I have another friend who was dilated at almost 5 cm for 2 weeks. So don't get too down about it because you never know :)

  • Not all women feel BH contractions so not feeling any doesn't mean you are not progressing or that you will go over your EDD. Don't worry!

A friend of mine never felt a single BH and had her water break at 2am and her daughter was born by 9am.

  • No words for you but I'm in the same boat. I'm a fingertip dilated still at 38 almost 39wks but other than that nothing, but definately not complaining about.  I do not feel ready for Lo to be here.

  • I'm the same way - the lil boy has not dropped yet, ob didn't think there was any point to an internal exam. She thinks I'll go to at least 40 weeks unless my water breaks (won't let me go past 41). Pros: I can work until 2/11 as planned, unless I go into labor. This little baby can keep getting bigger. Cons: I can work until 2/11 as planned, lol.

  • Don't get discouraged. With DS1 i felt nothing either the only thing i felt was my tummy get tight and occasionally some abdominal pain which always turned out to be gas. at 37 weeks i got up to make my husband lunch at 6am and my water just broke. I was not dilated at all and had no pre labor symptoms other than flu like ones a couple days before and nesting (these are pre labor symptoms in my labor book i got it may not be to some people since they happen all the time throughout pregnancy.) GL!!
