Teen Mom 2

The girl with the twins (Leah) her one daughter is noticeably delayed, the orthopaedist even commented that her arms look short, and she bears no weight on her legs and thinks there is nerve damage.  Yet they say she's too young to have an MRI.  She has to be about 9 months old.  it just seems like this would be the best time because they could get her into therapy.

anyone else think waiting till she's 1 yr old seems strange?

She's way more than 25% delayed, her twin is in the exersaucer and will stand while holding her hands, yet this one (I cannot remember her name) won't bear ANY weight on her legs, and refused to move it when the doctor poked.

Re: Teen Mom 2

  • I watched it last week (didn't see this week's) and they had her scheduled for an MRI so unless something changed, she was going to get one. (And you are never too young for an MRI--my daughter had one at 24 hours old).

The other thing to mention.  This is a tv show that is HEAVILY edited.  We really get a tiny, out of context snippet of what actually is going on in these people's lives so it is not reasonable to pass judgement on the route she and her doctors are taking.

Oh I know it's edited.  I just watched this weeks episode.  And she says "We have to wait 3 months for her MRI because the doctor's say she is too little".

LO has had 2 MRI's and a CT scan by 3 months.  I'm just wondering if it's something to do with their insurance, they must be on medicaid or clinic care or something

  • My son had an MRI @ 8 months.  Our neuro did explain that it's best to wait until the baby is past 6 months and closer to 1 year for brain MRI to give the brain a chance to develop more fully.
  • I hate to admit it but I am addicted to teen mom.. but I do believe that it is very heavily edited.  It also seems like they sometimes recreate moments, and the doctors visit seemed like that to me.  I get the feeling that they know more about what is going on with her than what is actually aired on tv.
  • I love Teen Mom.  It really breaks my heart that that little girl is sick.  I can't even imagine having to deal with something like that at 18 years old.

Carson Henry, born 39w, 2d, via emergency c/s due to no fetal movement and fetal distress.  Seizures, IVH grade 2, brain injury, kidney and liver damage.  Complete blood clot in the artery in his right arm.  27 days in the NICU.  Now discharged from all specialists, excepts his kidney doctor, who will monitor him indefinitely.  My tough little cookie.

  • I don't watch this show but DS2 had his MRI at 10mos old.
  • I personally didn't like that the doctor was now engaging in this conversation as it seems like her foot has been twisted for a while. He really didn't engage them when they were there for the appointment either (he just kept digging the baby in he leg without explaining anything) and personally I would find a more proactive pediatrician for the girls.

That said, he said the MRI was of her spine so i'm not sure if that makes a difference in the time of when she needs to be looked at.

  • My hubby and I were watching that episode and we both thought the pediatrician was a little "cold".  I know that alot of it is edited but from what I have seen, why did it take so long for someone to notice that something was wrong?

BTW... I just saw last week that she and the babies daddy are now happily married :)

MTV has been very open that on ALL of there shows that there are moments that are recreated since the "right" reaction/camera angle/audio etc. did not happen the first time (in fact, there was an entire after show of The Hills dedicated to this once...yes, when I was nursing DD early on, this was the mindless stuff I would watch on demand at 3 in the morning!).  I also agree that they are likely omitting information to keep the view interested and coming back for more.  It is a TV show after all and they need the ratings :)

  • That dr. is really like that!

We saw him at WVU (he goes to Women & Children's in Charleston as well, from what I hear).

His exact words (or close to it) were, I don't care about her scoliosis right now, and i'm not interested in bracing her leg (her right ankle was inverted) but why has she not been checked for cerebral palsy).

    The end.

lol I was like uhm...I don't know?  Because I though CP babies couldn't do anything, and Peyton could do SOME stuff.  But he did prompt me to go see a neuro in Pittsburgh and get our diagnosis.

He really isn't very pleasant though.

I'm actually leaning towards it maybe being a tethered spinal cord, although 3rd tri just posted a link and says she has glasses so it could be CP since lots of CP babies have vision issues.
