The L&D stories below triggered a moment for me. I wanted to tell everyone how important it is to take a CPR class. We took one that taught adult, child and infant CPR and choking. The day after my daughter was born....I USED IT. We all struggled to get to this point, so why not be 200% prepared for anything.
The night after Sydnee was born, the mother in the next room was screaming in the hallway at 2 am. No nurses. Her baby wasn't breathing. Her & her husband stood motionless in shock. DH and I took a CPR class a month before. So I did CPR while DH got a nurse. I got her breathing just before the nurses arrived. DD was in the nursery, but after that we ran to get her and I spent the rest of the night staring at her in awe because it really hit me how fragile, precious and amazing this little life was.
We took the class thinking we would never have to use it...but just in case. Who knew I would use it the day after she was born on a total stranger. 2 years later by coincidence, I ran into that woman and her daughter playing at the same open gym gymnastics center. We both bust out in tears.
This time around I am definitely taking a refresher course....maybe a couple!!![]()

oh, wow- i have tears in my eyes reading your story- that is amazing.
i got CPR certified when i was in high school, after a friend of mine died - from choking on a balloon he was chewing on - yeah, crazy....
since then i try to stay certified- but lately not having a ton of time- DH and I quiz each other now and then to remember the steps - there are also good tutorials online you can watch videos of if you can't get to a class - it's better to know something than nothing - and even when you have taken a class- you forget it so fast when you don't use it - so you need to remind yourself often.
What a beautiful story. I'm sure that mom can't thank you enough.
I really really want to take a class and might actually sign up now that you reminded me. Babies/toddlers always seem to find small random objects on the floor so knowing CPR is crucial!
