Success after IF

post-partum exercise~c-section mamas

When did you start and what did you do?

I'm feeling really good, good enough for light exercise, but don't want to over do it and then be in pain.

Is 2 weeks post c-section too soon for light treadmill and bike?  Will I regret it?

I'd love to get in the pool but I'm still having sporadic bleeding and I assume tampons are a no-no.

  • My OB did not really want me doing too much before my 6 week follow up appointment.  I don't know if that is the norm, or she is super conservative, but I did not want to chance it.

  • That's an incision thru multiple layers.

I was told nothing until 6 weeks.

This was one case where I listened and minded.

The fact that you WANT to work out has me in awe.  All I wanted to do was sleep any chance I got at that point!

And FWIW - for me exercise meant dramatic drops in milk production so if you're BF'ing keep an eye out for that!

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.

Good to know, I definitely do NOT want to mess with my supply!  Maybe we'll just do a light mall walk next week and see how it goes.

  • I delivered in July so I did do walks around the block with the stroller all summer. It was not until maybe 8 or 10 weeks that I headed back to the gym. I would def keep it light and if you are bfing strenuous exercise could mess with your supply fyi.
  • I wouldn't push it. Like PP said, they incise through all your abdominal layers and you don't want to mess with such a tentative healing process. 6 weeks is what I was told as well.
