-er name with -ers last name?

i am no stranger to cutting favorite names off my list just because they don't go well with my last name but the name Miller is one i can't seem to let go of. our last name sounds like Saunders so it's not that rhyme-y but is it too much -er sound?

i know many of you won't like the name but it's a family name and now that i've given dd a surname name, i feel like i'm stuck in that pattern.

also, do you think it's going to get really popular in the near future? i'm still not sure what i think about that.

thanks!

  • I think the two names work well. If you like it go for it.

  • Sorry, but I just don't think it works with your last name. I don't think you are stuck with a "surname theme" with only one kid, but if you name your second child a surname, then you would be more locked in for any third child. The fact that you call your daughter "Bay" makes it seem less surnamey, so I don't think it would be weird in the slightest to give you son a different kind of name.
  • I don't think it sounds bad at all. Now Miller makes me think of beer, but that's probably because I live right down the road from Miller Brewery :p

  • It's not too bad, but I am in the same boat and nixed Asher from my list bc our last name also ends in er.

  • There are worse combinations----but there are also better ones. Surely you have names on your list that you love and sound better with your LN. I also don't think you're stuck in the surname trend just because your first child has one.

  • I think it sounds ok, probably not my first pick though. I also agree, you are not stuck with the name pattern yet.

  • Our last name ends in -er and I cut -er and -or ending names for the same reason.

  • We have an -ers last name and, for me, that completely eliminated ALL the -er names because I think they sound terrible together.  The sing-song-y-ness bothers me.

  • I think it sounds fine. Our last name ends in N and all the names I like ends in N also. Just go for what you like. Just don't do Sander Saunders :)

    We did the same

  • I think it's fine, as long as the two names don't start with the same letter.
  • thanks, everyone! i have definitely cut out all names that begin or end with S sounds. i don't think that i have to go with surname names, it's just that all of the other first names now sound too informal or different with her name and i really want them to all go together somewhat.

    i appreciate the feedback!

  • I think it's always a case by case thing with rhyming & alliteration, and I think this one sounds fine. :)

I'm actually still considering the name Casper even with our LN being Carter. It just doesn't sound bad or hard to say to me at all, and my family (who would gladly tell me otherwise) agrees. I'm still having a hard time deciding for sure, but I just can't let it go. Other -er names sound bad with our LN, but this one just doesn't to me.
