Gee.. I wish everyone had a labor story like this..including me!

Our best friends (due 5 days before DH and I) had their son last night at 6:59pm! I am so jealous! My friend was 37w2d which was a whole week and 2 days past when she had her daughter 2 years ago. We knew she'd go early, as all the women in her family have babies 2-6 weeks early, but now I miss my pregnancy buddy! I still have 3 weeks and 2 days to go! After holding the baby I kept trying to connect the fact that all 6lbs of him, feet, nose, eyes and ears is actually a replica of what I am carrying in my tummy! Even with him in my arms, I still couldn't conceptualize that reality!

Kelly started having slight back pain around lunch time yesterday, and decided to leave work and head to the hospital around 2pm. Now, since her family has babies so fast (She arrived to the hospital with her first at 4am, and baby was born at 4:45am)...she thought she probably better go to the hospital early this time since she tested positive for group B strep and had to have antibiotics.  She was checked in at 3pm....4cm dialated, and by 6:59pm the baby was born! She dialated pretty quickly and even refused the epidural because she didn't want it to slow down her labor. She had no tearing nor needed an episiotomy .....which is luckily exactly how she delivered her first. I guess when the baby is 6lbs and almost 3 weeks early it's probably easier to avoid major stitches in that region! She feels great and the baby is perfect! Although, she did have a very hoarse voice when we arrived to the hospital about 9pm last night. Her excuse was "I was screaming a lot...because it did hurt....but after that 1 painful hour, I really do feel okay. I could do it for an hour". Umm.. yeah... I wish we all could.

Anyway, I always love reading birth stories and since I don't have my own to share yet, I thought I'd share this pleasant one. May we all have 4 hours worth of labor with no tearing and a perfectly happy ending. Big Smile

  • She is a lucky woman! And she's right, an hour isn't long to wait. :) It goes so fast when things are intense (well, it did for me) that it doesn't feel like an hour.

  • that was me my first time around!

My water broke-  nothing happened, went to the dr as usual since I had my weekly appt and she confirmed it broke and I was at 3.  The internal exam must have got labor going b/c we went home to get all our stuff and things started happening.   At 11:30am I threw up- we decided to go.  I got to the hospital around noon and checked in.  I was at 4.  By 1:15 I was fully dilated and had my son at 1:42.   No meds since it was so fast which is nice b/c I wanted to go natural-  then in what I call the 'hour of hell' I was asking about drugs thinking that I had hours more to endure- found out I was complete and said forget it.  I did have a 1st degree tear for 2 stitches, but it was an amazing delivery and I pray I am so lucky this time around

  • DS was 6.5 lbs and I still tore in 2 places with him. She was right to head to the hospital though.
