BH only right before a diahrrhea blow out? (TMI)

Does anyone else only get contractions right before they're about to have an intense session of #2?  They are so painful that they always get DH running for the go bag... only to have me go running for the bathroom for a blowout. :-P

At 38 weeks, -2 station, 2 cm dilated, and 40% effaced, I feel like I'm on track to an induction, which is the LAST thing I wanted. :(

Sorry this is the most disgusting post ever.

  • Why do you think you're on the way to an induction? Sounds like you're on the way to a labor soon if you ask me.

As for the blowout, I have not experienced that, but thats cause I'm still constipated....

From your mouth to God's ears!

I think I'm on my way to an induction because it sounds like (compared to friends/relatives who needed inductions vs those who didn't; practically everyone I know IRL just had a baby) I'm behind on dilation/effacement/station for 38 weeks. It was *incompetent* cervix they were keeping an eye on for most of this pregnancy, now mine doesn't want to freaking open!

Also, it is troubling to me that I only get BH when I need to go to the bathroom... shouldn't my body at least be attempting to practice?

  • Nah. I think you're worrying for no reason. I mean you're not due for 2 more (ish) weeks, and I've heard women not have any signs of labor at all and spontaneously start. I'm almost 38 weeks and I'm not dilated at all, just 50% effaced. And my DR said you can't use that as a determining factor in when your labor could start. He said I could be in later that evening or in 4 weeks. You just don't know!

So just give it some time. The fact that you have BH at all is a good thing! Don't stress, if you reach 40 weeks, then you can talk about induction. But don't set yourself up for it yet.

  • I know every woman's body is different and every pregnancy is different, but I will tell you that my mom never once showed any progress during the last 3-4 wks of all three of her pregnancies. At every appointment the doc would tell her 0 dilated, 0% effaced, next thing you know she'd be in labor. I wouldn't get discouraged just yet, your baby will come with time when he/she is good and ready no matter what your doc tells you after an internal exam.

My brother was born right on his due date, she had an appointment the day before and was told, like I said above, that she was not yet dilated and was 0% effaced. Just something to think about.

GL and sorry your not having a good time with #2!

  • I totally had this the other night!!!  I was sitting in birthing class, timing what I thought were BH contractions, and they were getting to be pretty close, like 8-10 minutes apart.  As soon as we were out of class and driving home, I started feeling like I was going to poop my pants.  We got home and I blew up the toilet, then felt much better and had no more "contractions".  I think actually I might have just been timing my indigestion pangs.  So gross.

  • I have experienced this, as well as a friend of mine who recently had a baby. I will get these cramps that make me think "could this be it?" then my body says "nope, but run to the toilet if you know what's good for you." As uncomfortable as it is, being constipated was worse. So, I can't complain. Side note: you should still count and keep up with these pains. My friend got so used to this happening, that when she really was in labor she didn't even know it! She thought it as just more indigestion! ...Then her water broke. Surprise
  • Thanks ladies!  The body can be a fabulously gross thing, can't it?  That's good to know that dilation/effacement really doesn't determine when we go into labor. :)

Christy, I am still giggling over "timing your indigestion pangs".

  • Okay I'm glad I'm not the only weird/gross one here, because I have definitely had that happen to me.  I start to really feel BH's and feel gross, and then I have to go running for the toilet.  It is really uncomfortable and freaks me out, but glad to hear I'm not the only one!

  • I was 1cm and 50% effaced at 38-40 weeks, no progress at all.  At 40w4d my water broke-  I got checked in at 4cm and was at 10cm within an hour.

it is sad how much those numbers really mean nothing
