July 2011 Moms

Well... since everyone is talking baby names

We don't know the baby's sex yet. We have decided on Logan Robert for a boy (MN after DH's father) and Lorelei for a girl. We are struggling with picking a middle name and nickname for Lorelei.

Here's some of our ideas:

Lorelei Elizabeth
Lorelei Jean (after my mother)

Any other suggestions? For nicknames, I know of Rory and Lori but I can't think of any others. We can't go with Ellie because that is my niece's nickname (for Elliana).

TIA!

Re: Well... since everyone is talking baby names

  • Such a pretty name! I like Lorelei Jean the best...Lorelei Elizabeth is quite a mouthful.

For other suggestions...I'd stick with a one-syllable middle name such as Rose, Claire, Jane, Quinn, Anne, Grace, Joy, Hope, Faith...

For nicknames...Lola, Lora, Lorel are what I can come up with. I sure think Rory is cute though :)

  • I like all of your name possibilities. Lorelei Jean is really cute. Does Lorelei really need a nickname? If so, Lori, Lore, even Lee-Lee maybe. My son is James and is never nicknamed, so I'm not in the need-to-nickname camp.

  • Ok...Well I can help you in the Lorelei Department LOL...I personally know 2 Lorelei's (actually, 1 lorelei (my aunt) and 1 Lorelai (friend's daughter)

My Aunt Lorelei is Lorelei Lee...Her nick names are Lore- Like Folk Lore...

My Friend's Daughter is Lorelai Elizabeth...Her nick names are Yi-Yi (her brothers are 2 and 3 and cant pronounce it) and It's sticking...Everyone calls her Yi-Yi...

But, she doesnt really need a nick name!

  • I definitely think a one syllable MN would go nicely, so in my opinion Jean definitely flows a little nicer than Elizabeth.  Lorelei Rose would be pretty too....do any of the name data bases have a one syllable catagory?  That would be helpful!  We're still stumped on middle names but know we'd like to keep it short and sweet.
  • Lorelei Jean!  I love the pp's suggestion of Lola for a nn.

  • Thank you so much for spelling Lorelei correctly! It's such a beautiful name. I've seen quite a few Lorelei Elizabeth/Elisabeth posts on the BNB, so my vote goes to Jean, which is less common and more sentimental.

I'd suggest waiting on a nick name until the kid arrives. Sometimes a good story makes a good nickname.

  • Thanks everyone for your comments!  DH and I talked about it and I think we are going to go with Lorelei Jean (if it's a girl). I like the sound of it and I think it will really be special for my mom to have her first grandchild named after her.
