Trouble TTC

Talk to me about IVF.

What was your diagnosis?

I have read that one of the risks of doing IVF (I know there are risks associated with all treatments), Is if you have probelms with your fallopian tubes, it can result in a ectopic pregnancy.

I think its important to learn as much as you can before you start the process, but I think as of right now google is something I should not be doing.. LOL

Re: Talk to me about IVF.

  • Definitely spend as little time as possible on Dr. Google!!

We didn't have a diagnosis, and we still don't.  My first IVF had decent eggs and decent sperm and good quality embryos.  My 2nd IVF had low quality eggs, but we still ended up with good quality embryos by some miracle.  I asked my RE if he thinks it's an egg quality issues, and he thinks it seems like one, but with the good embryos who knows.

I'm sorry I can't speak too much to the risk of ectopic...I could be 100% wrong but I thought there was less of a risk of ectopic with IVF because they put the embryos directly into your uterus.

  • I have stage 4 endo, borderline FSH & DH has borderline morph & count. The endo is the real reason we have to do IVF.

My tubes aren't effected by the endo (I'm not sure how this is even possible since my ovaries are covered with it, but my tubes are wide open...go figure) so I'm not sure about the increased risk of ectopic with blocked tubes.

My best piece of advice that was given to me was to take it one day at a time. You will get bombarded with info. from the RE and it can be really overwhelming. Also trust your RE and know that all RE's do things a bit different. It was easy for me to get myself really worked up because I'd see some ladies on here doing something different for their IVF than I was doing. I had to keep reminding myself that my Doctor knew my history, & trust that we shared the same goals.

I would also recommend looking into ways to help you relax. I did acupuncture & some IVF specific meditation/guided visualization CD's. They really helped me stay relaxed through the entire process.

     Good luck!

Girl you hit it right on. I think that is where I am now, seeing there are some ladies that are doing somethings different then what I am set up to do right now. I cannot wait until 2/22, get the plan and treatment going. Order the meds, and I am definitely going to ask about my diet and if there is anything else that I can do to better our changes. Mdluv did the diet thing and the acupunture as well. Thanks for the info!!!! I really appreciate it :)

    Hey Lady

Our diagnosis was "unexplained IF" with borderline late ovulation. I was ovulating CD25+ and they said that I should be O'ing no later then CD21. Some months I wouldnt O until CD40!

Im not sure about fallopian blockage but what I do know is DONT GOOGLE!!! It is not going to help because everyone is different and everyone's body acts differently.

For my protocol I did the Long Lupron protocol. I was on BC for 3 weeks, then Lupron for 24 days, I was on Gonal F for 9 days.

If you have any other questions, ask away. It seems overwhelming at first but once you are in it you will be fine. =)

Totally agree with MrsLoos:)  I would question things in my mind, but in the end I really had a great IVF cycle.  Good luck!

First off....DONT google in this case. I suggest buying a book or going to the RESOLVE website.

As far as tubes, IVF cannot result in ectopic pregnancy. I have both tubes blocked, so our only option is IVF because it bypasses the tubes. There is no way an egg can implant back up in your tubes.

Have you met with an RE yet?

ETA: Nevermind, I followed some of your old posts and saw you already saw your RE. If you have any questions about blocked tube(s), you can PM me. I know how much it stings to get that diagnosis.

Also, the books I bought are "Couples guide to IVF" and "Pregnancy Dreams and IVF wishes".

  • Sadly ectopics are a possibility with IVF. But you should discuss this with your RE, about their clinic stats and your particular case.
If your blockage was a spasm there is no extra risk. But I believe with hydros or scarring tissue they sometimes like to clean it first. Some cut or tie the tubes.
Definitely buy a book and visit the sites for IVF clinics or Resolve. It can take a while to sink in if you're fresh to this territory.
