Success after IF

so frustrated buying clothes for Henry

First of all, my child is huge and grows like a weed, so we have to buy at least two full wardrobes per season. That's fine...I'm just glad he's healthy and growing.

But what frustrates the hell out of me is that when I go to buy him more long-sleeved clothes and winter pants there are NONE to be found. I can't find anything on the shelves but shorts and short-sleeved polos! I've tried shopping online, but it seems that even if I do find something decent looking, they don't have it in his size (most of the winter stuff has been on clearance since Christmas, so it's very picked over).

I get that they like to put out spring/summer clothes early and that's fine for adults, but don't the children's retailers realize that kids outgrow their clothes? What am I suppoesd to dress him in come March when it's still 40 degrees out?

And yes, I'm pretty sure I've vented here before about this, but I thought it deserved another post. Stick out tongue

  • I hear you!!  its very frustrating!  my 6 month old is wearing 12 months clothes...yeah, I didn't really plan for that when I "bought ahead".  sigh.  luckily I bought a bunch of hoodies from old navy in the fall in a big size and they work to go over short sleeve shirts.

  • I feel your pain. Luckily, we just had a friend give us a bunch of her DS's 18-24 mo clothes, so we should be ok for the rest of the season.

Have you tried any consignment stores? Don't know if they tend to keep winter stuff out longer or not.

  • Agreed....wholeheartedly.

My plan is to go with short sleeves and lots of sweaters.  I'm not sure what else to do.

  • What about a 2nd hand store? Our Once Upon a Child always has all seasons in stock, I like that. Not sure if you have one around you.

  • That stinks! Grant is not growing as quickly as H, but I've taken to buying G's tops big. He is wearing 2T now, but, one shirt was out of stock in 2T, so I got 3T. I roll up the sleeves. I hope you are able to find some things for H. Like a couple of folks said, sweatshirts and layers work. Though, y'all have had so much snow this winter! I have to say, my new favorite place to get G clothes is Lands' End. Good luck!

  • I was going to suggest second hand stores, mom2mom sales, or even the salvation army/goodwill.

  • There is still winter stuff here and it's in the 70's.

I was just in Gymboree and they had a ton of winter stuff on sale.  I got some good deals too!!
