Help me - I'm being silly and paranoid

In the past few weeks I've noticed that LO has really rapid strong movements that last about 10 seconds every so often.  They don't happen regularly but they always seem to last between 5 and 30 seconds.  It makes it look like my belly is jiggling like jello, or like a ripple effect that's stronger.  Usually you can even see it through my shirt.  I'm sure there is a perfectly logical explanation, like a really bad itch or something ;) but I just need to hear that someone else has really rapid movement.

  • I seem to get this vibrating sensation a lot from within.  I always wonder what in the  world is LO doing in there! lol  Sometimes when LO pushes its butt up, I get a wave going across my belly...maybe yours is doing somersaults!

  • Maybe.  I just can't seem to shake the feeling that it's a seizure.  I don't think seizures really occur before birth and I don't have grand mal and my medication isn't generally used to treat grand mal anyway but I still can't seem to get rid of this feeling that the movements aren't right.  I can't seem to make any logic out of them.  It's definately not a somersault though, I know what that feels like and it's not this.

  • My LO does exactly what you described. I think it's normal, but I agree with you-- it's hard to imagine what exactly is going on in there!

  • hmmm...have you asked your dr or when do you go next?  Maybe start charting when you feel it and chart the activity that could have brought it on?  Sorry, not much help!

  • I get the same thing every once in a while.  I was worried that they could be  seizures too so it's good to hear that others are getting the same thing.  It's almost like he's doing a dance in there for a few seconds....really weird.  I have no idea what causes it, but you're not alone!

  • As long as I'm not alone, I'm not worried.  It's just good to hear that people without seizures have the same bizzarre rapid movement that's short lived.  Thanks!!

I haven't mentioned it.  He asks if the baby is active, but I never think to mention the crazy shaking movements.  I can't think of any rhyme or reason to the movements.  They don't necessary happen around a specific time or activity.  If anything I notice them more when I'm sitting or laying down.

  • My LO does the same thing. I figure it's sort of like a yawn-stretch (you know, the kind where it almost feels like you've lost control of your muscles?).

I was thinking that LO was having seizures the other night as well. I asked my Dr about it and they said that it is possibly the baby getting new muscle development and the baby just stretching and such. I too was afraid for LO but everything seems to be fine according to the DR.

  • My LO does the same.  It feels like baby shakes for a few seconds then it stops.

  • My baby boy does this a few times a day every day.  It never concerned me.  I just figured he likes to be active.  My husband sees them every now and then and thinks it's hillarious.  Sometimes it's like the baby is trying to beat me up.  He's super strong.

  • My baby does this all the time. It's like it's shaking or seizing. There was a post recently about this - maybe on third tri? From what I gather, it's perfectly normal. Just a little crazy.

  • I've seen people on Third Tri call this baby quakes. It seems to be normal. My LO does it, too.

  • Yup, I call them belly earthquakes, and I get them all the time :o)
  • Belly earthquakes! I love it! I get them too and DH felt one at bed time and could't believe how crazy it was. My mom called it "the rumba" with my sister and I. It seems to be normal, but very weird to experience!
