Your experience with Zantac

LO was just given a prescription for Zantac. We are also thickening his milk with rice. That hasn't helped much, so on to Zantac. Did you notice a difference with the Zantac? Any side-effects?

Thanks!

  • No side effects and no improvement.

  • We had a hard time getting our little guy to take his Zantac, but they had him on a strong dose and it did absolutely nothing for him.  He doesn't spit up much, but was screaming for huge parts of the day and had lots of wet burps, so they thought it was reflux.  Eliminating tomatoes, citrus, and dairy from my diet helped a lot more than the Zantac.  We stopped after a week on the pediatrician's recommendation.
  • J is on Zantac right now. No side effects. Seems to be working. He still has some days where he spits up like crazy, but better than before. DH heard/read somewhere recently that it can slow brain development or something. So we're going to ask our new pedi about it next week.

  • She was put on it for "silent reflux", aka crankiness, and all it did was make her never poop. We took her off of it a month later after seeing another pedi.
  • Worked miracles lol. No side effects.

  • DD had terrible painful gas caused by zantac, and no improvement. Switched tp prevacid and its a ton better!

  • no side effects, but not effective either!  We give prevacid now.  Good luck.
  • Zantac and a thicker formula was all that was needed for DS.  Just a warning tho, we were back at the peds about every month for a weight check because he kept weighting out of hte dose and they upped it by .1 each time. I would notice his symptoms reappearing and off to the peds we'd go. W/ the girls we do prevacid in the morning 1/2 a tab and Zantac at night, also w/ a thicker formula. That's what works for us w/ them.
