Hey Ladies!
I forgot to ask my dr. at my first appt about the NT scan. We did this with my DD when we lived in Atlanta, but I don't know anyone who has done them here in Birmingham. My BFF had the same OB and she said he never mentioned it, but she also didn't ask. Is that not something that most doctors do (or refer you to a perinatologist to do it) around here?
For the record I go to Dr. Morgan & Freeman at Brookwood.
Thanks!
Re: NT Scans in Bham? Brookwood doctors?
It is optional at my OB's practice. They provide documentation about the scan and let you make the decision. My doc was also open to discussing it with us if we wanted/needed to.
I go to Birmingham OB/GYN at St. Vincent's.
That's my same practice too for both DS & LO#2
They never mentioned it to me for either pregnancy and the only routine ultrasound given is between 18-22 wks {althought I think they've shortened it to 19-22}.
I'm not sure which OB you see but just as a general rule-of-thumb, Dr. Freeman's philosophy is that he doesn't push for the screening tests so you'd have to ask for them {Amnio, CVS, Genetic}. Of course they do checks like hcG, Rh, glucose, Group B, etc. routinely.

Hi lolo!
I am scheduled for my NT scan at UAB on Monday.
My OB referred me to b'ham since they don't offer them in their office. I know it's not required, but we had the 2nd trimester quad screen when I was pg with DD and I figured if I had a choice between the two I'd opt for the NT scan... at least I'll get to see LO an extra time.
natural m/c and d&c at 10 weeks - 1/24/2014
DX w/ hetero C677t and A1298C MTHFR - 3/4/2014
Thanks so much! I'm going to ask, but I'm not hopefully he will refer me for one.
Lydia, good luck on yours. I loved the NT scan with my daughter, and actually found out she was a girl then
