Got my first REALLY nasty pregnacy remark today...

I work at an auto parts store, so the customer base is 90% male, and the staff is all male except for me. This doesn't bother me in the least. BUT.... Men just don't know how to say things the right way.
I can handle some things.... When I was pregnant with DD#1, I was asked when I was going to "calve out". That was one of my most shocking remarks last time around.
This time... I got the "Hi, Fatso!" as soon as I walked out of my office. I was shocked!!!! What do you do when your paying customers come out with comments like that?! I don't want to be a b!tch and never have their business again, but jeez! Can't they be a little nicer?
Anybody else get nasty comments yet?

Re: Got my first REALLY nasty pregnacy remark today...

  • Right when I started to show, my boss' boss told me I looked like I needed to lay off the Christmas cookies (yes, she knew I was/am pregnant). Luckily my employees all said something like "her little bumps is so cute". I could've throat punched the woman after she said it though.

  • Throat punching seems like a reasonable way to go...

  • Yep! Walmart employee asked me if I was having twins, I said no, just one and she said with a smirk on her face 'don't worry honey, I was huge like that too'.... Might not be nasty to someone else, but to me it was the worst! I AM 6.5 almost 7 months pregnant and look pretty much the same as everyone else on here. Some people have no tact.

  • I think the correct response is "Hi, Ugly!"

    People can be idiots.

    Yes

  • UGHH!!!  I got "...I guess with your 3rd pregnacy your body gets used to it and just starts to round out all over..."   and this lady was interviewing!  Fortunately (for her) I would never mix a personal comment with business and she was highly qualified so I hired her as a sub. BUT, that was the last thing a sensitive, pregnant woman like me needed to hear.

  • I don't know what it is about about pregnant women and the need to say the first thing that comes to mind! I think I need to wear a shirt that says, "Think about what you say before you say it to me!" Just because I am an extremely happy pregnant woman, does not give anybody the right to say anything! Grr!
    End of vent! Sorry!
  • I've gotten the "Hey, Fatso!" remark from people at work as well!  I know the person was kidding, but I don't really find such remarks funny...

  • If a guy said that to me and he was even slightly overweight I would say, "I'm pregnant. What's your excuse?" and walk away...

  • One day at work a woman greeted me with "So how's the little fat girl today?"

  • Among other things, I've gotten "Hi there, chubby!" and more recently, "Is your butt pregnant too?! Yukyukyuk"

Definitely will have to try throat punching lol.

  • I've gotten... "You're awfully big for your baby being due May 1st..."

The "Are you sure there aren't 2  in there???" Is probably the one i LOATHE the most!

  • Ugh! I also hate the "You're pregnant again?!" question. Umm... This is only number two for me. My daughter is 3 1/2 yrs old.... It's not like I'm turning into Michelle Duggar here or anything!
  • Yes, DH's father came over the other day and say's "So you getting fat yet?"  I was sitting on the couch with a blanket over me.  I stood up and said "No, I am not getting fat, but I am starting to show."  I don't think he understood that he insulted me so I am sure it will happen again next month.

  • Honestly, laugh it off.

My husband's uncle walked in to Easter when I was pregnant with Cole and said Hi Fatty!  I laughed with my mouth wide open, and very laughingly said back, Pregnancy hormones mean justifiable homicide.    We both laughed, but the point got across.  Needless to say, it wasn't said again after that.

  • I am so thankful after reading this and similar posts that I haven't been the butt of any such remarks (yet).

  • my boss asked me if i had a baby bump yet right after i told her i was pregnant. (i waited the first 3 months) and i told her eh not really just a little one. and she proceeded to poke my stomach saying "oh then you've always had this then?" assuming my baby bump was just chub. i was like uh....no....thats the beginning of my bump.... but shes a dumb c word so thats all i can say about that.
  • I had someone in my HR dept tell me my butt was getting huge... I think I was 10 weeks! I was pissed... I honestly did not gain a pound at all yet and I am 24 weeks!

I got comments early on due to I showed early (my ob said it was cause I was pg a few months before and miscarried so this is considered my second pregnancy) that I was stupid for wearing maternity clothes so soon... um I had a bump and why should I not wear them! the person that was saying it is pregnant, 3 weeks ahead of me and is massively overweight. it is not my fault she is not showing. I just bite my tounge but if I could throat punch with out getting fired I would!!!

if someone ever told me that I was huge fat or anything like fat ass I would be ticked off and would not be able to contain myself...

  • My FIL calls me fat all the time. and every time we go over there he asks if im 8 weeks along. Im at 22 weeks ive gained the normal 10 pounds, not to mention ive told him a million times how far along we are. Its so frustrating sometimes, but he has no respect for women at all. He expects them to clean, cook, take care of children and shop - nothing else. Thank god my husband didnt turn out like that!

I was showing really early too. I started wearing maternity pants at 12 weeks and definitely dont regret it. A girl at work told me it wasnt worth it and didnt start getting maternity clothes until she popped a button on her pants at 6 months. I would much rather be comfortable and get some use out of my clothes than wear skin tight everything.
