Feel like I can't breathe!

I have had a terribly sinus infection!  I'm finally getting over it, my OB put me on a Zpack to help out, and everything else seems like it's back to normal.

 BUT!

I feel like I cannot TAKE a deep breath!  I'm an elementary school teacher so I'm up and moving constantly.  I feel more out of breath than usual and I have to stop teaching to take and try a deep breath.  I have an appointment on Friday, so I plan to ask my OB then.  I can breath normally, but I feel the need to take deep breaths more and it's just not coming easily.  I don't think all the sinus stuff is settling in my chest, but I don't know!  I have a dry cough - but nothing that sounds serious and no fever.

Could this be to the increase amount of blood flow for a pregnancy?  Could it be my body just trying to get used to being pregnant and has anyone else ever felt this way?

 Thanks for your thoughts! :)

Re: Feel like I can't breathe!

  • it could be many things, including stress/anxiety. i know personally if i get stressed out or anxious sometimes i feel the same way with my breathing. just try and relax and take care of yourself. i'm sure you'll feel tons better once the sinus infection is out of your system too. they suck, especially when pg!

  • I would tell your dr just b/c the infection could have moved down into your chest.  I ended up in the ER in early Dec for what I thought was an asthma attack but they said it was a chest infection and I got a breathing treatment.  Good to go after that.
  • I am a college professor and 8 weeks pregnant, and I am having to stop during lectures to take a deep breath.  I had the same thing with my last pregnancy also, even this early, so it could just be pregnancy related, but always a good idea to have them check your lungs to make sure something more is not going on.

  • I am a long distance runner, and the other day, while teaching CPR, I kept having to stop talking and catch my breath. I do think it is related to all the pregnancy changes. (my coworker, the heavy smoker who avoids exercise like the plauge finds it quite funny; I got out of breath trying to talk to her on the walk to lunch)
  • I have been noticing that as well- I am chalking it up to the fact that my heart rate seems to go up more easily now.  My workouts feel twice as hard and i notice that I get winded easily. The meds and the infection are probably not helping in addition!

  • I feel the same way with my breathing. During easy tasks, long conversations, etc, I feel the need to take deep breaths and I am still out of breath a little bit. It is worse when I am really bloated, so that can be contributing.
