and where are places to steer clear of?
I went and looked at a few today. Some I really liked, some where ok and a few were downright nasty.
?-Is it dumb for me to be judgy about the daycare when looking at a few of the kids? Some of the kids were dirty, nasty. Like look like their faces hadn't been wiped at all since being there. This wasn't at a snack time moment either. I would be horrified if I came to pick up C and she looked like a few of these kiddos.
C isn't starting till she's 8 months. My SIL is watching her till school gets out. C will start in JUly.
Re: P'land peeps. Daycare? Where does your kiddo go?
We just drove down 518 and popped into the ones that we saw. A good "impromtu" visit is a good way to take a look at the facilities. Kids R Kids and Primrose and always a favorite - but they are also on the pricier end. If you are looking for something more reasonable, I used to have DS at Little Genius Club (practically down the street from you) and I liked it. It obviously did not have the nice facilities that the newer DCs have, but I liked the infant teachers, and it was CHEAP! ;-) We only switched for more convenience for us b/c LGC was a few miles out of our way.
I went to LGC today and I think they raised their rates!!!
I liked Steppin Stones but they were $$
I like Tottenberry's as well
Oh - and you will probably find this at any DC - especially with the toddlers. With 1 teacher to every 5 or 6 kids, noses fail to get wiped sometimes. (however, if it looked like the kids were not properly taken care of - then def. mark it off your list.)
I have heard good things about TBs. I think it was a little too far for us. Sucks about LGC - I know when we went there, the advertised prices were higher, then we asked about hte prices, and they were having a "special" - I think we paid like $135/wk! Now I am wondering why we switched! ;-) j/k - I like the DC we are at now, and it IS more convenient.
That's why I went! Some friends take their kiddo there and they get $135 a week because of the *special*. It's a little out of our way but not much. We would drive for the $135! lol
It was Homegrown that the kids(and the place) were down right nasty. Most of the kids looked more that just a runny nose that hadn't been wiped.
One of our nesties has her child at Tottenberry's and loves it.
Another nestie who is expecting in March looked there and liked it a lot too.
I think you know where M goes. I like it, but as soon as M gets attached to a teacher they get fired. And I'll be shocked because I'll think they are awesome. However she will continue to go there until she starts Kindergarten.
She used to go to Kinder Care and I really liked her infant teachers. It doesn't have the ideal set up and ended up being our choice because our first choice was booked (it took 18 months to get off their waiting list) and our second choice was too expensive.
I don't like Kids R Kids on CR90. And I've heard horror stories about Ivy Kids and excessive discipline. Both of those are out of your way though.
I've heard great things about Kids R Kids at the entrance to SCR off 518. A few nesties have or will have kids/babies there. Each KRK is independently owned so you really have to check them out and see for yourself.
The Montessori off CR90 has another nestie tot and that nestie is happy there.
This would be a great discussion at an upcoming babyshower if you are able to make it! ;-)

I think I RSVP'd yes didn't I?
Who goes to TB? I can't remember where M goes. You can email/PM me if you want to!
P is managing the RSVP's so if you think you did, you probably did.
I'm not comfortable posting which kids go to which school because you never know what kind of psychopaths will see our gorgeous kids and want to kidnap them. I'll PM you. :-)

I know someone whose son attends here and they love it. I believe it's a bit pricey though.
we only looked at places on our side of 288, so i'm not much help because i doubt you want to come this far.
we did look at ivy kids, and were considering it. if you look at any in-home's let me know. we looked at one that i was terrified to go back to that was near bw3's
Our LO will be starting in July as well. In November when we were looking, there were a few places that had wait lists past August.
I'll send you an email with the details of which ones we liked, etc. Is your yahoo one still good?
I had the same reaction to the snotty faced kids that didn't look like they'd had their face wiped in hours. I wasn't judging the kids, I was judging the teachers!
DS born Dec 10, 2013
DD went to the Primrose on CR 94 the two months she was in daycare and we loved it there. It was my top choice the minute I walked in and toured it. I know several people in my neighborhood that take their kids there and I've never heard anyone say they hated it. All the other places had a few people tell me they didn't care for it but Primrose always got raves. I looked at the following when we were looking:
Kids R Kids on CR 90- hated it and there were some pretty shady violations online
the Montessori on CR 90 - loved it but too expensive when she didn't really need the Montessori curriculum at 3.5 months to me
Kindercare on CR 90 - it was okay. I may have been a bit picky but I didn't like had you had to walk through the toddler room to get to the infant room and they were separated by a glass wall. Seems like it would be doubly noisy.
I've heard great things about Tottenberry's but it was out of the way for us. We kept our search to our side of town.
You didn't to the actual invite (maybe the save the date evite?) but I'll consider this your RSVP and put you down
Well, even the "normal" rates for LGC were like $170/wk, I think (at the time we were there). That's still over $50 cheaper than Primrose or KRK!
A friend takes her kid to the Goddard School. No idea where that is, but she really likes it.
As for the runny noses, that would bother me! I know Cooper comes home with a little snot crusted to his nose, but if it were down to his top lip I'd be pissed. This time of the year, almost all of the kids have runny noses and they almost all scream like crazy when you try to wipe it (or wait, maybe that is just my kid?) but still. That's part of the job. I can't stand it when C has snot coming out of his nose. Ick.
I need to move to the burbs, the "expensive" places out there cost less than the nasty-I-wouldn't-leave-my-dog-there places on my side of town.
This is actually what I liked about it when M was there as an infant. She never had a problem sleeping when it was noisy because she started there so early she just acclimated to it.
I liked the glass wall in the beginning because the 2 teachers with the infants and then the 2 in the toddler room can all hold each other accountable when it comes to my fear of a care provider abusing my kid when I'm not around.
And then when M transitioned to the toddler room, she was at the age where toddlers have a lot of separation anxiety. She had a hard time leaving her infant teachers - she loved them so much. But when she would get upset in her new class her infant teacher could go over, talk with her, etc. And if it wouldn't put their ratios out of whack, she could go "visit" in the infant area with her old teachers but then go back to the tots when she saw what the bigger kids were getting to do and she wanted to get back to them.
I also really disliked the toddler teacher when she started in that group so I liked that the infant teacher was looking in. The toddler teacher is long gone.
I haven't been there in over a year though. M's BFF's mom has a new baby and was going to start her at Kindercare instead of the girls' new school, but recently changed her mind even though there is a significant price difference. Same infant room teachers though. So... I dunno.

I live on the SCR side so currently we go to KRK on 518. It's just ok. We moved from MGBLC (smaller, mom/pop place) b/c of some issues we were having with the staff. What I've discovered is that at KRK is that my kid is just a number. It's a franchise and there's lots of kids there. The staff barely knows my name or my child's name. The teachers don't really give the TLC that I was use to at the previous location. I'm actually considering moving again but I haven't been really impressed with any of the dc in this area.
