How do you respond to "when are you due"

Do you say May or do you actually tell them your exact due date? I find that if I say May 23rd people look at my very large belly and say "Oh you still have such a long time to go", but when I just say May they say "Oh that's right around the corner"...I don't know why the "such a long time" comment annoys me but it does.

  • I usually just say "the middle of May".  It's easier than being really specific and giving an exact date, but avoids the awkward "When in May?" discussion.

  • I say early May...and people always have something to say about the length of time until May. It bugs the crap out of me, too. I usually just say something like, I've made it 26 weeks, 14 more is a piece of cake.

Truth is, we do have a long way to go.  We are just barely over the halfway point.

  • I say May.  Nobody really cares the exact date.  Even if I tell them the exact date they all will forget and start pestering me starting May 1 to see if I've had the baby yet.  Not looking forward to that part.

  • I say May 6th and people tell me it's so far away and I've even been asked if I'm having twins because according to her, I am 'huge'. I would much rather people tell me it's right around the corner. I'm tempted to start saying end of April, since people think May is the end of the year or something!

  • I normally say my date, May 27th or the end of May.  I use them both interchangeably but I think I may say the actual date more often.

People just like to make conversation, I think.

Same. My due date is May 13th, so I usually say 'middle of May'.  However, I'm not sensitive to those kinds of comments......so sometimes I give the exact date. Depends on who's asking.

  • i just say May or the end of May. I really hate the term due date, because who knows when the baby is going to come. i don't want to get near that date and people constantly make comments like "oh, 3 days until your due date!" i feel like i won't handle that very well. for me, it's best to just be general with people.

I'm actually due May 20, but my doctor will schedule a c-section the first week of May.  Chances are, I won't even make it that long.  Too much information for casual conversation, so I just say May.

we know I won't make it to my due date (may 13) but we don't know if it's going to be an april or may baby. Rather than go into a complicated history lesson of my ute track record, I keep it vague on purpose.

  • I say end of May.  Only like 5% of babies come on the EDD so to me end of May is more accurate.

  • I say May 8, but add "give or take". I've been told three dates, all based on different measures and I can't remember which one is currently the official one. And yea, as PPs have said, it's unlikely baby will actually come on the day. I'd rather not have people counting on May 8 as THE day. I just know I'll be growling when people start commenting on the baby not being here yet, when is it coming, etc. ;)
  • I usually say "May 26th if i make it that far"

I am told i look farther along, probably because i'm only 5'4 and short waisted.

Honestly it doesn't bother me, I'd rather look really pregnant that fat, people treat you nicer o.O

  • I just tell people I am due in May unless they ask the specific date. No one has commented that I look too pregnant or not far enough along yet.

  • I usually just say May, but not purposefully.  Honestly, it'd probably be better for women if we were just given approximate due dates...I see too many moms-to-be stressed out because they're at 40 weeks and 1 day and haven't delivered yet!  So "middle of May" works for me.

  • Beginning of May but strangers don't ask me. They either don't want to be rude or they think I'm just fat or something. The only people who ask are people that know I'm pregnant but I don't keep them in the loop on the details.

  • I was telling people May 14th, which is my EDD since that was the first thing I'd think of, but became annoyed when more than one person felt the need to tell me, "Oh, you won't really have the baby on that day, don't kid yourself!"  Yes, I do understand that the EDD does not mean that's the day when baby comes, I'm not stupid.  Now, I just say middle of May and get a mixed bag of "oh, you're so big already" and "that's right around the corner."

  • I say the 1st of May or 1st week of May.  My due date has fluxuated between 4/30 - 5/4.  DD came early, so it does not really matter - they come when they come.  :-)  The comments come anyways (you are huge, you are small, you have a ways, that is soon, etc).  First time around it annoyed me, this time I ignore it.

    This.

When I give my actual due date (12th) I feel like people look and me and instantly judge.  I am still getting the "I didn't even know you were pregnant" comment from co-workers.  It really irks me because just before I got pregnant I lost almost 20 pounds and I got a whole bunch of unsolicited compliments.  So I'm thinking, "thanks for not telling how fat I look!"
