Success after IF

The stress of OOP.

Here we go again.  Thursday I am suppose to start injections again for our IUI for #2.  DH made me wait till after the new year to start cycling again because he wanted to set up a medical spending account through our insurance to be able to pay for the cycle fees tax free.  I know nothing about medical spending accounts.  I thought he had this all figured out but I discovered last night that he thought I was saving to cover the cycle fee up front and that we would be be reimbursed later by insurance.  We have the money to pay for this but it is in a seperate savings account that will take a couple days to get the money transfered.  Of course all of this caused an arguement last night!   I hate this crap!!!!!!!  DH hates paying for IF.  I keep reminding him that it brought us our beautiful daughter.  It surprizes me how  shocked all over again he is about how much this costs.  Especially since we already been through this.  Gives me such a headache.

I am also stressed about the waether.  UPS is suppose to deliver my meds today but I am worried about all the snow outside.  I have a day 3 appointment tomorrow but we are suppose to wake up to at least a foot of snow.  My RE said they will still be open.  Hope all moves smoothly despite all these headaches.

Thanks for listening to me vent.  I think I blocked out how stressful this process is.

After 2 years TTC with mild endo and an elevated FSH. We were successful with our second IUI after Lap surgery. Our daughter born 12/2009. Currently trying for #2. IUI#1-miscarriage, IUI #2-BFN, IUI #3- BFP Pregnancy Ticker

Re: The stress of OOP.

  • I am so sorry I can't imagine having the stress of paying OOP on top of IF treatments. Huggs.  If it makes you feel better my Dh hates paying for IF crap too, I have good medical coverage but I paid for 2 years of our embryo storage out of my own money.  Dh and I have seperate accounts.  Men just don't get it sometimes.  Hope your meds come and you get the RE safely tomorrow :)

  • It is VERY stressful and a strain on your marriage.  We were oop halfway through IVF #1 and 3 and paid for all of the meds oop for iui #5-8 so that the remaining insurance we had went toward medical.  Obviously it was worth EVERY cent!  When we brought that first big check for IVF DH ended up in the hospital w/ a severe case of hives which they attributed to stress!  After IVF#1 failed, he wasn't sure he wanted to proceed so naturally more stress on the marriage.  We lucked out but money came up again when we started ttc#2 right away.  I'm so sorry that money is causing you stress, it totally sucks and it's not fair.  I hope that everything goes a little smoother and works out for you, GL!

  • Vent away - it's just all so unfair.  My insurance luckily covered our treatments.  My IUI was in November and my insurance was changing at the end of the year and there was no coverage for infertility with the new plan.  We really lucked out that it worked for us.  It's crazy how expensive everything is.  Plus we started out this journey thinking "if it happens, it happens".  Then moved on to "we'll see what's wrong but no make ourselves crazy".  Which quickly turned to "we'll mortgage the house".

  • It sucks. We spent about 20k OOP and still have about 7k left to pay back. blah. My girls are so worth every penny, but it would have been nice if insurance would have covered it and we could have a bigger SUV. Oh well.....

ETA - We have two small SUV type of cars and its tight. Anytime the four of us go out, my knees are smashed up against the dash. We are trying to be very smart with our money and not give into a car payment (both of our cars are paid off) so we can pay off this loan.

  • I'm sorry!  I know how you feel - DH & I have misunderstanding and disagreements on this topic all the time!  It is VERY stressful.  I hope everything works out for you.  By some stroke of luck my follicle scans were paid by insurance last cycle, so that relieved some tension between us (DH was not happy when he "learned" (though I'd told him before) that they were not going to be covered by insurance).
Childhood cancer (DH) + chemo + radiation = 0 sperm.

    LO #2 - 1 m/c, 2 BFNs, 4th IUI worked (unmedicated/self-monitored with new donor sperm).
    Life is beautiful!

  • We were OOP too so I feel your pain. I hope everything works out for you guys & you get your BFP!

We did our IVF cycle last year during "snowmaggedon" in the DC area - there were literally 2 blizzards back to back in Feb & I was out of work for a full week b/c of the snow. But, my RE was open & we completed our cycle, which brought us DD. :) Just leave early for monitoring appts & be careful - GL!

  • Thanks for listening guys!  I told myself while I was pregnant with my daughter that I would not do treatments again.  Considering all the stress it brought on my relationship with DH and how sick is was with morning sickness/heart burn.  Add on the 24 hours of labor and three hours of pushing.  Funny how you forget all the bad and the desire for another one kicks in!
