I have been telling DH for over a year how much daycare centers cost and every single time he freaked out and acted like he'd never heard this before. I was trying to prepare him so that when the time came to actually pick a place, he'd have come to terms with the cost.
Well apparently he either didn't listen to me, or thought I didn't know what I was talking about because now that we're actually looking, he's freaking out at the price. So now he wants to look at in-home places because his co-worker told him how much cheaper they are.
So...any recs for in-home daycare in HoCo?

Re: Vent...and in-home daycare in HoCo
It REALLY depends on where you are... I couldn't find (licensed) in-home infant care in my area. People either didn't offer it, were full or were not licensed by the state.
**However, I don't want to scare you off, we live in a town in Northern Baltimore County with a lot of OLD people, so not many childcare options.
To find licensed in-home care in Maryland you can use this tool: https://www.mdchildcare.org/ajlogin/login.asp?stat=1&attemptedPage=https://www.mdchildcare.org/mdcfc/childcare/mccdefault.asp
We ended up going with a center because of the issues above. It costs more then our mortgage but it is well worth it for us because they work on DDs physical therapy with her. I don't think an in-home provider would be able to do as much with DD as the extra resources the center provides can.

I just want to echo Jen. I know it feels completely overwhelming. I was panicing when I realized I needed a spot 2 months earlier then expected and I was so far down on the waitlist at every place. But you will find a place and it will work out.
<<Hugs>>
You can also try care.com and sittercity.com, there are some licensed people on there.
And I totally feel you about husband's not listening and acting shocked. We found out last week our daycare gave our spot away and the only other place with an opening is $400 more. I now am a stay at home mom because it's just not worth it for me to work!
Try the MOPS groups and I know greenberries consignment store has some Mom's groups links on their website, I'm sure someone there will have a good rec for you. You still have time, especially since in-home is not going to really have a waitlist. They take kids as they are available since it's missed out income for them. So you might need to wait until a month or two before your due date before they'll really guarantee a spot.
Francesca Pearl is here! Josephine Hope is almost 3!
You might also want to visit some daycare centers w/ him to show him what that environment is like vs. an in-home - so that you both understand the differences. In-home is definitely cheaper, but there are some trade-offs. Some of which you may not care about - lke the longer hours, open every day/no vacation/sick days, etc. - and if you don't need those things, its kinda silly to pay extra for it. Some centers have a really high turnover rate on staff and your LO will have to change rooms and get used to a new provider every few months - with an in-home, you may have the same provider for your LO for several years, etc.
You guys should take an afternoon off next week and go visit an in-home and a center just to get a feel of how things operate. Its really hard to visualize all this stuff w/o seeing it and I think for men its even more difficult b/c they really have NO CONCEPT of childcare/daycare, etc. and haven't spent the last 10-15 years passively thinking about it like most of us have.
I think our daycare is having an open house this weekend - Columbia Academy at Kings Contrivance so you could at least go there and see how the rooms are set up, etc.
Thanks for all the encouragement! I'm just having a bad day with this today- hopefully I can get organized and feel better about it.
We had our first daycare visit at a center yesterday and have another one next week. I loved the tour - we got so much information. We loved pretty much everything about the center yesterday - DH is just balking at the price tag. That's the *only* reason he wants to consider in-home. (Not that there is anything wrong with in-home, it's just a preference thing.) We'll probably have a better idea after visiting an in-home also - then we can compare.

My husband panicked everytime I told him the price too. Apparently in MD the daycare center costs are expensive. In HoCo even more so. That said, our 2 top places, The Young School and Knowledge Beginnings are some of the less expensive options, by like $50 a month, maybe.
I tried looking for in home places and found that most people didn't want to even talk to me until about 2 months until I needed them. That doesn't work for me. I NEED a place no later that 12 weeks after our LO is born. I wish you good luck and my advice would be to line up a center or 2 that you like in case you end out without a spot at an in home.
FYI- I think thats what husbands do. He finally came to terms that I am not going to be paid for 6 weeks out of my 12 week leave.
